The original language and spelling tool
For youngsters just starting to learn the language and spelling, this is the "original" electronic tutor.

Great vintage fun
This is great for your kids if they’re at that early primary stage and learning to spell. Functionally, it does what I remember from childhood. There’s the normal spelling tasks and a hangman game, and probably other tasks that I never got round to trying out (because my youngest kept playing with it!) Not sure if this has the same build as the original from the 80’s, but it does feel a bit on the light and flimsy side. It’s also not been updated in terms of power supply, so you’ll need batteries for it rather than charging an internal battery. The only real complaint I have is that it’s sometimes hard to make out what words the device is speaking. The voice is very much in the style of the original - think the robots from Buck Rogers - and can sometimes blend into background sounds. Oh, and sometimes it feels like you see the same words cropping up repeatedly , especially in Hangman mode. It could really do with some updates, both to the hardware, and the software, but that said, it’s still great value, and the kids love it.

Old school
Its okay, but it has an American accent which make it difficult to spell certain words. Its light in weight and screen quality is old school. Works well but there are better spelling games you could buy for the price.

Love it
Blast from the past. Got my daughter this as I had one when I was young. She loved it. It’s great.
