Q: Are they oil based or wax based? And are they as good quality as prismacolors

These are superior to the current Prismacolors. They are vibrant, don’t have lead breakage issues, color is true without bonder causing discoloration that occurs with prismas, blends extremely well, and don’t have the issue of constant wax bloom also typical with the current Prismas. It’s the original Bristol brand Prismas that made Prismas the go to pencil. They no longer have the same quality with the current manufacturer but people still buy them only due to outdated recommendations for a product that no longer has the same quality and performance.

Q: Do these pencils lay as smooth as prismacolor? And how vibrant compared to prismacolor? Are they great on toned or black paper?

These pencils are great product for the money. They lay down as smooth as the prismacolor, vibrant colors. I'm very happy with him.

Q: do these pencils have toxic lead in them?

The lead in pencils was found in the "paint" not the "lead" or "core" of the pencils. Most, of not all, U.S. manufacturers avoid using paint containing lead. I don't think the same can be said of China. If someone wanted to answer this , I believe Homedepot offers a free "lead testing" kit that can be used to test the paint of these pencils.

Q: is the color name printed on pencil?
