All consuming!!
I’m honestly not sure if saying that “I loved this book” is the best way to put my reading experience.. Is it dark? Absolutely. Is it traumatic and disturbing? In true Karin Slaughter fashion, of course. But is it also so all consuming that you’ll have a hard time putting it down? 100 percent.Personally, I find Karin Slaughter books to be somewhat therapeutic - as someone that has unfortunately dealt with SA and doesn’t have it as a trigger when reading dark storylines. I cried when Charlie was explaining what SA truly takes from a person. I FELT that. Her detailing how she wanted to rid herself of everything inside her body that she felt was tainted by Zach, it’s so real. I didn’t even realize it at first, but I found myself sobbing. These types of books are definitely not for everyone. Know your triggers, if you have them. There are plenty of reviews so you don’t need to go in blind. Her books are extremely detailed and can sometimes be gruesome. That’s what makes them so incredible and realistic. As with her others, the character development in this book was phenomenal. You truly understood the motivations behind the main characters and you felt their emotions during each twist and turn. The story is gripping and once you’re in, if you can handle it, you won’t be able to put it down.If you’re interested in reading it, don’t hesitate. It’s absolutely worth it. I’ve quickly become a huge Karin Slaughter fan after 4 books and I’m looking forward to reading the rest!

4 Stars!
Karin Slaughter doesn’t mince her words. The Good Daughter was a gritty, violent dark novel which had me from the first page. The Good Daughter centers around two sisters Samantha and Charlotte Quinn who after a home invasion will never be the same. This event leaves both of them scarred for life. They have mental as well as physical scars. In a split second, they go from being a family to losing their mother, gamma.Their mother Gamma was special. She had a very high IQ. She had married Rusty, a defense lawyer who most of the town people hated especially after defending a rapist. Gamma and Rusty loved their two daughters. Samantha, the oldest daughter had a better relationship with Gamma and Charlotte had a better one with Rusty. As adults, both daughters had followed in the footsteps of their father. They are both attorneys. The sisters will become estranged for many years after a fight the last time they saw each other as adults. Neither knows what has transpired in the life of the other. But the estrangement will come to an end when a situation back home requires the presence of Samantha. What a devastating story! It broke my heart. I was so sad about what these girls lost. Neither had healed from the major event in their lives but I felt like they were on the right track by the end of the book. They were entitled to some happiness after everything they have survived. The Good Daughter had a couple of good twists. One was easy to guess. The second one less so.Karin Slaughter's writing is addicting. She makes you believe these characters are real. You get to know them inside and out. From their fears to their hopes, to their souls. One last thing, the audios read by Katherine Early are superb. She has a great voice. Go ahead and give her a try.I would recommend the Good Daughter to anyone looking for a writer who delivers a memorable story.Cliffhanger: No4/5 Fangs

Ten stars!
Sisters Samantha ("Sam") and Charlotte ("Charlie") Quinn survived something truly horrific in their early teens. Even though they're both successful attorneys now, they've spent the last twenty eight years trying to cope with the events that transpired on 3-16-89. Though mental, physical and emotional anguish, self-destructive behavior, and a cold chasm separated the sisters, as did the miles, another tragedy brought them back together where their nightmare began all those years ago.As someone who comes from a dysfunctional family myself, I found the tension between Sam and Charlie incredibly realistic. Their sniping, resentment, annoyances, unspoken thoughts, and temperamental outbursts were spot on. The dialog between these two sisters is simply brilliant. And speaking of brilliant, the two girls are that and then some, especially Samantha. They got their smarts from their mother, "Gamma," [for gamma rays] a very high intellectual who worked for NASA at one time, and who is so smart she can't fathom making spaghetti or doing housework. Naturally, the concept of God is beyond her comprehension. Samantha came home from school one day to find her mother working out a huge mathematical equation on the kitchen window trying to figure out why her cake fell. While both her daughters also are very smart, it's Sam who is most like her cold, elitist, genius mother, and they often clash. Charlie, on the other hand, also is super smart but she's the girl everyone likes: popular in school, lots of friends, and all that. She is everything Sam is not, including "Daddy's little girl."Daddy is Rusty, a criminal defense lawyer in the small Georgia town of Pikeville, where he's loathed by the locals for successfully representing murderers, rapists, drug dealers, and every low-life imaginable. Rusty apparently is "OCD," unable to sit still, always talking, tapping, jangling or doing something, anything, including chain smoking despite serious heart problems. He "loves his daughters the way they need to be loved" but do they really know that? When tragedy strikes that family, it is indirectly because of Rusty Quinn. While I obviously loved this simultaneously sad, gripping, hilarious story, two things disappointed me. One is the language, a pet peeve of mine and a recurring complaint in all my reviews. While some profanity and obscenities would've been understandable for a couple of the characters in this book, it simply makes no sense to me that two uber-bright attorneys, Samantha and Charlotte, would resort to such language when they clearly are quite capable of expressing themselves [well above the average person] without the use of expletives. My second disappointment came near the end when a one word misquote of scripture nearly blew the whole story for me. Apparently this was a huge gaffe on the part of the author because the scripture verse is given in two translations, the last being the clearest, and also where that one word was apparently accidentally omitted. While I can't explain the context without giving away both the story and the ending, suffice it to say a character supposedly did something by following this particular verse, which, as I noted, was misquoted, and therefore, wrong. And that changed everything. It took me a few minutes to overcome it, but the rest of the book was such a good read, I just went with it, and didn't let that error spoil it for me.So, in a nutshell, yes, I do highly recommend "The Good Daughter." And I challenge each of you readers to decide for yourselves which one actually is the good daughter. Happy reading.

A fascinating story, but the pace is too slow.
Love this author. And the story and characters in this book are great. But it is very slow paced. I read the paperback, and it was almost 700 pages. A lot of maybe unnecessarily long dialog and descriptions. I hate to complain because the story is really great. You’ll love the two main characters.

Excellent read... As always
So I've been a fan of Karin Slaughter since her Grant County & Will Trent novels but had a few years break from her books to read other things... This is the first novel of hers that I've read in around 4 years & it took me a few chapters to fully get used to her style again... Without a doubt she is a fantastic storyteller & completely draws you in to the characters & the world they inhabit... Graphic in parts & a little bit too gruesome (nothing new really!) yet still compelling & a real page turner...Not many authors come close to this type of quality writing when all the pieces come together almost effortlessly with no "rushed ending" failures that tend to ruin a lot of other thrillers... Must resume my reading of Slaughter novels - maybe even re-read some - she never disappoints!
