Great For the Price
I use them to sketch outlines on canvas before painting or Oil Pastels. They work great for that. You might consider a higher priçed/quality set for serious drawing needs. They might be fine for charcoal art, I just needed some charcoal the same size as my Pastels. They fit nicely in a Pastel box.

Great variety
Great variety and quality. They last too! I use the soft charcoal quite a bit and still have most of the stick left. Highly recommend!

mostly sturdy set of drawing sticks that work well
I found these drawing sticks to work quite well. With the exception of the white ones, they do not break easily. I did find the white ones broke fairly easily but was able to make use of the smaller pieces pretty well (I only used them for highlighting), so this was no problem. Otherwise, these drawing sticks work quite well. They draw dark unbroken lines and respond well to the pressure you put on them to draw thin or thick lines. There are 3 types of drawing tools in this set, graphite sticks, charcoal sticks and white charcoal sticks. Finally, I note that, while this product does come with a pencil tray, the tray is not covered or closable so, to travel with the product, you will probably need to put the sticks in a art case of your own.

They work well, but they're small
I ordered these to experiment with, rather than using my brand-name charcoals. They're decent quality, better than I expected, but much smaller than I'm used to for compressed charcoal--much thinner (5mm) and a bit shorter. That's not all bad, though, since it makes finding a point to draw a fine line easier. Like all charcoals, the charcoal sticks and white charcoal are fragile. The graphite sticks, however, are less easily broken.Between the three hardnesses of charcoal, the white charcoal, and the five hardnesses of graphite, it's easy to get a full spectrum of greys from deep black to bright white, in both matte (charcoal) and more reflective (graphite) tones. They blend very well with a finger, towel, or blending stumps, but like all charcoals, you're going to need to wash your hands later unless you use charcoal holders on everything, and light colors will be showing specks of black dust when you're done.At their current price of $15, it's an okay value, but I'm not thrilled; they'd be a solid purchase if you can find them on sale around $10 or less, so add them to your wishlist and watch.

Good quality
I gave these to my daughter to practice with; she likes them. They work smoothly and are well pigmented. The various shades make it easier/faster to achieve certain effects. They also smudge well. A very nice set to work with.
