Very informative.
I bought this book, and a leather craft kit for my husband's birthday. He hasn't had an opportunity to start using it yet, but he said he really liked the book, and thinks it will be very useful. Apparently he'd been looking at this one for a while, and it just happened to be the one I picked. Which worked out great. He's really excited to get into leather working.

A great book for beginners
Getting Started in Leather Crafting. This is a great book for beginners just getting started in leather crafting. The authors cover all the basics from what leather is and how to work with it. The book is loaded with high quality color photos and set by step instructions on how to cut, stitch, stamp and die leather. It even covers attaching hardware to finished leather projects; something missing in other books. The only thing lacking is projects and patterns; there are none in this book. One or two projects would have been a nice addition. The book will show you the skills you need to work with leather; what you make is left up to you. One star off for the lack of projects. If you are just getting started, this is the book for you. If you already know the basics; it is still a nice book to refer back to occasionally as a refresher. How does that mystery braid go again?..

This book has tons of info
This book covers the basics on most categories of leather working. You can search a lot of places and get excellent how-tos, but how do you know which area of leathr working you would like the best? Where to start? This book shows you the different art/craft areas and you can gauge the difficulty or ease for you, tools you will need, and what you might like to try. Instructions are to the point and brief, but caveats of what to avoid and what not to do are included. That makes it easy to know what videos and and other sources you might like to search for. Try to find some used tools or a leather working community to get started, if you like, but you can really get started with just this book and some tools and leather.

Excellent beginner resource.
I like the way this book invites you to jump right in. You don't have to be a master craftsman to enjoy working with leather. The working knowledge of the leather craft is pretty well condensed here.Plenty of pictures to give you ideas for future projects. They don't suggest them. The ideas you get just flow off the pages!I appreciated the lesson on the floral design. They follow the same rhythm of work as the Old Masters. I'm glad they didn't skip over that.I recommend this book because I had it in my collection once and I couldn't find it when I needed it and it deserves to be in my library.

I Read the Negative Review But I Find This Book to Be Very Helpful
I'm new to leathercraft but I am a master of numerous arts and crafts. I make My living as an artist and have for 35 years now. That said, I read the Negative reviews and am absolutely puzzled as to their intention. I find this book to be a very comprehensive overview of leathercraft with excellent diagrams, photos, tools, methods and instructions. I'm sure for a more advanced leathercrafter that there may be more comprehensive instructions to delve into various techniques and projects. However, this book is an excellent resource for beginner and intermediary leathercrafters. It's well worth the price.

Damaged
I ordered the spiral book so it could remain open on a table while working on my hobby. We'll it arrived damaged. Paying extra for a spiral book wasn't worth it!!

Great Resource For Beginners
This book briefly covers a bunch of topics that are relevant to my learning leathercraft. The photo illustrations are very detailed. The tutorials cover the basics on coloring, stitching, tooling, etc. I wish the section on coloring was more in depth. This book won't make you an expert, but will certainly give you a good foundation. Highly recommended!
