Big Baby Brother is alive and kicking in the womb of it's mother; Big Tech!
This moving was scary as hell and it gave winked at the most important lesson for the future of technology.Private information, in the wrong hands can be dangerous and deadly. In reality, who would make the decisions to respect and control information so sensitive and personal about any of us; greedy tyrannical politicians and the Big Tech CEOs?Voting machines are already have 10 ways to be hacked and flip votes. So, why not make everyone vote wither they want to or not....then sell the political position to the highest bid. And if they dont vote; shut down their banking account or expose their health issues. Or, maybe just create some false crime and arrest them or make it look like they were running and shoot them dead, even if they were not armed.Frankly, the endling of this movie was crap and seriously delusional. There is absolutely no way that a Big Tech company could get this much power and not use it for evil.....If you think this was cool or a better way of life....then wear a camera all day and allow one person to have control of all your assets, money, social media accounts, privacy, etc. They already know too much now!! More than you know!

Pleasantly Surprised.
I expected from reading the reviews that I wouldn't like this movie. I watched it anyway as I like the actors (Emma Watson, Tom Hanks, John Boyega, Karen Gillan, Bill Paxton and the rest of the cast) and the premise. I was very pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed it even though Emma Watson's character Mae Holland creeped me out for her taking the idea of "transparency" further than anyone else ever had before.I have not read others' interpretations of the movie or the ending of the movie, but this is what I got out of the movie:Eamon Bailey and Tom Stenton start this company that pushes the boundaries of collecting and storing peoples' information, watching and recording people with cameras, and integrating the information collection across all areas - medical, financial, social, etc. They do this to gain money and power. They don't want to be part of it. They want to use it to gain power and money.Along comes Mae Holland who is hired into customer service. The Company is called The Circle and is a huge city like compound with anything a person could need, so they really never have to leave the compound of the company. In fact, although not "mandatory" they are expected to spend their leisure time socializing in the Circle.Mae "borrowed" a kayak one night to go kayaking in the Bay to clear her mind and enjoy the freedom and beauty of it. She had an accident and could have died, but was saved due to the cameras of the company on a buoy spotting her out in the Bay,Mae then becomes what I call a "true believer". She believes the technology could be taken further in order to make the world a better place, in order to protect people from their darker tendencies by making everything they do transparent and therefore making them accountable, and protecting people from themselves - controlling their cars so they don't wreck, protecting their health, etc.Eamon and Tom embrace her ideas since it gives them more power and more money.Mae starts wearing a camera on her at all times and becomes completely "transparent". Everyone and anyone who is a part of the circle can watch her at any time except she gets 3 minutes to go to the bathroom without being watched. She believes that her being watched and held accountable brings out the best in her and keeps her from succumbing to her darker tendencies, such as her "borrowing" the kayak which almost resulted in her death.Mae becomes famous, popular, and powerful due to her online fan base. The company introduces a technology and shows how by everyone being in the circle, it can be used to locate anyone in the world - no one can hide or 'be off the grid." They demonstrate this by having the circle try to locate first a criminal on the run who is found in just over 10 minutes using the network of people and cameras. Then the audience wants to locate Mae's former friend Mercer who is basically living off the grid due to an unpleasant online incident in which he was bullied by the people in the Circle. Mercer is located and chased by people participating in this hunt. He loses control of his vehicle goes off a bridge and dies.Instead of turning against the technology, Mae believes the technology needs to be improved such that Mercer could have been protected from himself. Mae still believes every human being should be forced to be a part of the Circle and should be protected from themselves. The company then introduces technology that will drive the cars for people, thereby preventing such chases and wrecks from occurring. Then, Mae is shown by the creator of the technology, Ty Lafitte, the true motivations of Eamon and Tom. He shows her their secret emails, financials, everything as all is held on the computer storage and in the cloud.Mae as a "true believer" outs Eamon and Tom during a very public meeting that is also being shown on Mae's camera. In essence, then I believe Mae basically takes over the Circle. She had mentioned earlier that her dream is that everyone in the entire world be in the Circle and be watched for their own good and the good of society and the world basically.I thought the end scene was about Mae Holland's dream of everyone being in the circle and everyone and everything being "transparent" or watched and recorded coming to fruition.Rather frightening and creepy.

Lost Potential.
The Circle is a movie that the modern day generations can appreciate or at least associate with. This review will of course contain spoilers. In a nutshell, The Circle is about a young woman named Mae (Emma Watson) who comes from a "lower of the middle class" family. Her father suffers from multiple sclerosis, and it takes a toll on the family metnally and financially. Mae starts off with customer service at a local water company, until a friend snags her an interview with The Circle; an incredibly large social media and technology company run by Bailey (Tom Hanks) and Stenton (Patton Oswalt). At first, it seems like a dream job but odder and odder events keep occuring, and Mae faces more and more pressure to make more of her life apparent in the name of The Circle's ideas of all knowledge being transparent and accessible. Tom Hanks's character does a great job of making it sound like a net positive, but the movie, of course, takes a turn when you realize this isn't the case and The Circle's agenda is much darker than it appeared. The acting in this movie was average. Tom and Patton's characters weren't the most dimensional characters to begin with so I wouldn't say these are their strongest performances; not due to their acting ability but rather the roles assigned to them for the movie. Emma played Mae fairly well, and displayed the reluctant nature of her position with the circle convincingly. Since much of The Circle's plot involves around basically a bunch of social media zombies, the actors and actresses played to those roles, so they do come across as creepy and awkward in some situations, but I would vouch that's kind of the point.I cannot give the movie more than three stars in good faith, because while there is a very strong buildup, the movie completely falls flat on its face in the last half hour. The agenda and technological advancements of the circle eventually lead to a death that is witnessed by billions of people as a statement about the consequences of this kind of absolute information unity and transparency. The effect is has is seemingly zero. Just when the movie gets you worked up and thinking "This is horrible, this company better be taught a lesson", it takes it in the complete opposite direction. The lesson never comes. In fact, by the time is all said and done, The Circle is stronger than ever under new leadership, operating in more or less the same manner before some very, very important events took place that revealed The Circle for the ugly beast that it was to the entirety of the world. This left me with a bad taste in my mouth after sitting through almost two hours of movie. Perhaps that was the director's intent all along, because make no mistake the movie is strongly political in nature and message. But if so, the message being portrayed is not a good one, and it's that these social media mega corporations should, in fact, have access to all your information, all your knowledge, and all your experiences. That's not a good message to be pushing, especially in this day and age. I don't think the turn it took was tasteful or compelling. Quite frankly, it's dangerous.

Lol.
