Ensure Pre-Surgery, Clear Carbohydrate Drink, Strawberry, 10 fl oz, 4 Count

I actually like the taste of the strawberry variant! I recently had back-to-back spinal fusion surgeries, so I got well-acquainted with this drink. It was required for me to consume 2 hours pre-surgery. I can't speak to how it helped my surgery or recovery, but I did survive both surgeries without difficult during and post-op.

I was surprised by how many people think that this item, Ensure Pre-Surgery, is the same thing as Ensure sold at grocery stores. This is a special form of Ensure Clear, not just transparent, but without any color at all, which is designed to be a part of a strict clear liquids diet before a medical procedure, such as surgery or colonoscopy. You would not drink it more than a day, and there is no other reason to drink it other than for a medical procedure. It is totally clear (no color at all). It comes in strawberry flavor, but the flavor is very subtle and I would probably not even guessed that it is strawberry if it was not written on the bottle. It is probably an artificial strawberry flavor. The taste is agreeable, but I would not drink it if I did not have a good reason to. I used it for prep for colonoscopy. Ensure Pre-Surgery is not carried by grocery stores or pharmacies, so I was very glad to find it on Amazon. It is unlikely that someone would drink more than 4 bottles during the day of clear liquids diet (in most cases it is a one day prep, although it may be different in some cases, I just do not know). The difference with Ensure Clear is that Ensure Clear is transparent, but has a strong color to it (and tastes better). Depending on the type of medical procedure which you are preparing for, Ensure Clear might also work (and it would have more flavors and would taste better and it is also cheaper) - ask your doctor.

I only needed one of these drinks, but it came in a pack of four. The product was exactly as described and had the nutrients I needed prior to surgery. It was easy to drink and had a fizzy taste to it. The sugar content was low, and it prevented me from getting sick after surgery.

It’s so disgustingly sweet, but I know it’s supposed to be. So hold your nose and drink it down real fast. Kind of reminds me of a glucose test drink. Thick consistency. Definitely drink it cold!And this is coming from somebody who is a pastry chef… Lol it’s even sweet for me

I have had many surgeries, and for most of them I’ve just made sure to hydrate well the night before, but I was having a surgery a few months ago that was planned far enough in advance for me to get this, so I did. It’s delicious. It tastes like strawberry milk, if I recall correctly. I’ve never been able to tolerate normal Ensure because of the taste, but I’ve had Ensure Clear many times and it just tastes like juice with a slightly weird aftertaste and astringency. This is definitely the best tasting Ensure in my opinion.

Was prescribed these pre surgery by my hospital anesthesia clinic. So, my orders were to drink one 12 hours pre-op, one 8 hours pre-op, and a 3rd right before I left my house to drive to the hospital. The upsides are that you're pretty full and fueled the morning of surgery, and apparently not so dehydrated and completely destroyed post-op as per usual.I have pretty severe migraines with aura (think stroke-victim), and one way you call down the Migraine Thunder on yourself is to skip meals. Problem solved, and I actually felt pretty great the morning of surgery, even compared against the same routine with Gatorade (another recent surgery). The Ensure is way more substantial and gets you way farther than just the ol' sugar water.But hoo boy, the taste. If you like sucralose, you are in for a real treat... because you're about to get 5 lifetimes of sucralose intake, man. For us actual humans, the aftertaste is SHOCKING. The consistency of a very light smoothie isn't as offputting as that ABYSMAL strawberry Sucralose taste. Strawbralose = BLARGH!But hey, bottom line, at least you're not hangry and having a migraine and faint when you roll up to the hospital. That's worth something. 3 stars.

These things helped save me during my pancreas and liver flare ups. Low sugar, good amount of carbs and calories that are much needed!
