Grayson is that good!
This story is so cool! As a fan of Dick Grayson as Robin (in the New Teen Titans from the 1980s) and as Nightwing, this series "Grayson" is a fun story that puts Dick Grayson's character on display. The story is great and the action is fun and upbeat. This omnibus collects the whole Grayson 1-20 and some additional issues that showcase Grayson. The Art is FANTASTIC!

Dick Grayson/Agent 37 is the heart of the DC Universe
Dick Grayson is one of those characters, even more so than Batman, who can be malleable and flexible with regards to his role in the DC Universe. I think a lot of people (myself included) were quite worried when this series was announced. However, Tom King and Tom Seely’s wonderful characterization and stories coupled with Mikel Janin’s beautiful artwork dispelled our fears. Dick Grayson the heart of the DC universe is put into a situation where he must use deception and trickery in his every-day life. Being a natural performer who is used to being in the spotlight he has to learn to restrain himself at times. Dick, not Batman in my opinion is the most relatable character:) Yes he’s gifted athletically and intellectually, but he doesn’t hold it over anyone as Batman tends to do. Batman is withdrawn, sullen and moody. Dick is outgoing, fun and light-heated , but serious when it comes to the job. He’s a blue-collar as opposed to the blue blooded Bruce Wayne and can mix with mostly anyone. Despite being so young, he knows the value of hard work and has traveled extensively which widens his perspective as well as his knowledge base. Dick loves and respects Bruce, but does not want to become him. Saying that, he does have insecurities that battle with his perfectionism. (Also like Bruce) But he has friends, hobbies and a life outside of crime-fighting that allow him to be so well rounded. This series is spectacular, I wouldn’t have minded if he remained an agent of Spyral. While he can fight, he will choose diplomatic avenues as well which this omnibus highlights. Helena Bertinelli, Tyger, Midnighter also shine as supporting characters in this as well. Helena is a strong, confident character put into a place of authority. She doesn't mesh well at first with the charming Grayson. Eventually, though he disarms her with his wit and his humanity. Reminding her why she does what she does. He wants so deeply to connect with dangerous, downright evil people much tot he detriment of his own safety which is always secondary. I find it humorous, as a secret agent, he never shoots his weapon. He uses his gun as a projectile weapon but never uses it to wound anyone. Not even an enemy. His empathy and his heart shine through this whole series.

This omnibus is totally awesome. It is a must-have for any fan of Dick Grayson, aka “(The first) Robin”, aka “Nightwing”.Tim Seeley, Tom King and Mikel Janín have created a fascinating character. Their Dick Grayson is a charming, dashing and likeable guy who has interesting inner conflicts and exudes sex appeal. In fact, I believe that Janin’s Dick Grayson is the sexiest straight hero both in DC and Marvel universes. This Dick Grayson is not simply a wisecracking hottie in a cool costume who is fond of doing parkour and martial arts and punching eccentric villains. This Dick Grayson is a three-dimensional character and a great guy everyone (men, women, straight people, gay people, comic geeks, jocks, etc.) would enjoy hanging around with.We also get a Helena Bertinelli who is an attractive, strong, independent, self-confident and feisty woman that knows how to tame men and call the shots in a patriarchal society. The stories are absolutely gripping. They are full of action, adventure and nail-biting suspense. But there are also plenty of poignant moments (e.g. the conversations between Dick and Batman or Dick and the other members of the Batman Family) in them when you both empathize and sympathize with the main characters. I freely admit that I got misty-eyed several times. However, unlike his grim-faced mentor, Grayson is really fun to be with and there is lots of humor in these stories; there are even a few Dick jokes and sexual comments (about Dick’s good looks, six-pack and, above all, his nice round rock-hard butt) that, together with beefcake, will make you either blush or feel horny. The dialogues are realistic and believable and the conversations flow. By the way, it is the first time that the Spanish language (as it is spoken in Spain) sounds natural in an American comic book. Maybe, we have to thank Mikel Janín, who was born in Pamplona (Spain), for that. There is narrative continuity and although every chapter begins in medias res, you never feel lost and, pretty soon, it becomes clear that each chapter is a piece of an interesting puzzle. In addition, as I said before, the comic book is also visually exciting. Mikel Janín’s drawings and Jeromy Cox’s colors are simply stunning. They are so detailed that reading this riveting comic book is like watching an action movie in which the actors are not wooden and know how to give a nuanced performance. The characters show different emotions and the settings transport you to all the different and exotic locations where the action takes place. This omnibus also features the art of other artists (such as Natasha Alterici, Roge Antonio, Geraldo Borges, Carmine Di Giandomenico, Christian Duce, Javier Fernandez, Flaviano, Alvaro Martinez, Stephen Mooney and Yanick Paquette) who have collaborated with Seeley, King and Janín on this project. And even though their art is not as impressive as Janín’s, it is not bad at all.The only thing that this omnibus needs is a table of contents. Besides “The Candidate” (from Secret Origins #8), Grayson #1-20, Grayson: Futures End #1 (“Only a Place for Dying” – a masterpiece of great storytelling) and Grayson Annual #1-3, it also includes character designs, variant covers, cover sketches and the layouts of the first pages of Grayson. To sum up, buy this gem and get to know Dick Grayson.
