Rhode Island Novelty Black Felt Top Hat

My daughter wanted a top hat. I'm old. I don't know WHY she wanted a top hat. Why would a kid want a top hat? She's not into steam punk {yeah, I'm old, but I can read}. When she pressed me to get her one for her birthday I found this one. I had dealt with Rhode Island Novelty before and thought I had some idea of what I would be getting for such a low price. Novelty items are not generally meant to last so when this arrived I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of it. It's made of a thick, stiff felt that holds its shape and is put together pretty well. It is much nicer and much more like a real dress top hat than the novelty/party hats I found in the stores. Those were usually soft or made of plastic. The inside measurement is about 22 inches around and the base tapers slightly to the top (not a stovepipe hat). It is a little loose on her head but her hair helped it fit well enough to use. She wears it while teaching herself to play the ukelele. One day if you're rocking to the tunes of a top hat-wearing ukelele megastar, you'll at least know where she got the hat.

This hat exceeded my expectations! Wow! I purchased it earlier than I actually needed it, because I figured the price was too good to be true. I thought this was going to be one of those "you get what you pay for" things, since it was so cheap. Thought if it was cheaply made, or looked horrible, u would still have time to find something else for my son's Halloween costume. But this hat was perfect! Perfect size, and very sturdy. I was worried when this was delivered, because it was in a box that looked too small and was "domed" up, I thought for sure it would be crushed when we opened it. It was not, despite being packaged in a too-small box! My son is only 10, and this hat fits him perfectly, but he has a slightly bigger head than an average 10 year old. Wouldn't fit a larger sized adult head, unless you want it to just sit on top of the head. After Halloween is over, (when we have more time) he plans on keeping it and make it more "Steampunk" looking. He wore it all night at a Halloween event, and not once did it fall off, or become uncomfortable to wear. This is a great hat at a great price!

Hat was too big to use on skeleton 💀 head for my wreath. Good quality!

We purchased this for our son to wear in a school play and it looked so good with his clothing. It's fairly sturdy and well made for the price. He's about 6'4 and it for him well.

This hat is adorable! Great quality for the price. I ordered this based on the reviews and I am not disappointed. My son is playing the part of John in a production of Peter Pan and needed a top hat to wear with his pjs. This particular hat received great response here on Amazon and I have found I can usually trust Amazon reviewers. In this case they were spot on, as usual! Definitely nicer costume quality for a low, low price. Sturdy--doesn't seem like it will lose its shape unless it is stepped on or crushed or something! Very pleased. Update: The hat performed beautifully and looked great.

Inexpensive and cheap material, but for a costume or prop it is perfect. It fit my dapper skeleton perfectly.

Flimsy hat was spotted in a bag and was crushed upon delivery. Return Cody's more than the hat with only option being usps and Kyrgyzstan a box and passing postage plus a 20% restocking fee!

As far as the hat goes it is not oval enough for a human head. So no matter who you are you will need to work this sturdy hat a bit to get a good fit. Even though it was Prime they did not ship it for a couple days so it took 5 days to deliver and I missed warring it to the party I had it planned for. However, I will keep it anyway as it would cost as much as the hat to ship it back and it has some fun potential in the future. If you are involved in FIRST FRC the theme this year is 'SteamPunk' and with this hat and some glasses you will fit right in.

Nice hat, good construction. Only complaint is sizing could be more forgiving...smaller than wanted and no stretch to make it a proper fit. Because of this price is too high for this hat...$7.99 would be as high as I’d pay at a store for this one.

Bought it for a decoration but the quality is so good that it could be used for a person to wear.
