Juan Pablo Molyneux: At Home

This huge picture book is nothing less than a bedazzlement for the eyes and the brain. It features the designer's own homes in New York, Paris, and the French countryside, and showcases particularly the talents and skills of the team of traditional artisans and artists whose magic he employs in all his projects. His chateau is the location of his design school which houses and provides work space for up to six master carvers, painters, weavers, embroiderers, plasterers, upholsterers, and specialists in the fields of marquetry, lacquerwork, and passementerie. Many full page and double page color photographs display their work as it appears in the finished rooms of his homes, as well as exterior views of the architecture complemented by these elaborate creations. Each room is a complete work of art assembled from multiple masterpieces exemplifying the highest level of technique and the finest quality of materials. Just a few pieces of furniture and objects, each the best of its kind, suffice to produce the aesthetically perfect space. Text is minimal: it's all in the photographs. (My reservations: I would have appreciated more text, especially if by Molyneux himself, who is very articulate, more personality, more passion, not quite so much perfection.)

What a book, what a man, its a real passion with him and although I do not adhere to his style I can appreciate the amount of ork he puts into his environments and all the craftspeople he hires to work on them, bravo +++++
