Must have if you have older Nikon Lenses
This little gem will win your heart should you have older Nikkors in your bag. I have shot over 500 pictures using various AIS Manual, AFD, and AFSG lenses from 11mm to 300mm including the TC-17 Teleconverter with a Nikon 1 V1. All of my older lenses are so much better than the 10-30mm kit lens that most of the time I expect the FT-1 will be on this camera. Here are a couple of items which I discovered that may be helpful as I did not find this information in the Nikon literature and in the case of the 70-200 f/2.8 VR, Nikon support could not answer why this lens was not on the approved list for the FT-1. 1. Motion Snapshot and Smart Photo Selector modes do not work on the Nikon 1 V1 when using the FT-1. 2. The range finder does not work with non-CPU lenses (AIS Lenses) and there is no exif data captured for these lenses. 3. A pleasant surprise is that the the View Finder in the 1V1 is good enough for focusing AIS lenses, even a 50mm prime at f/1.4. 4. It is difficult if not impossible to focus AIS lenses with the monitor even zoomed if hand holding. Tripod live view focusing is great. 5. For AFS, autofocus is very good and manual focus using the range finder is excellent. Exif data is captured by the 1V1. 6. For AFD, there is no autofocus, but the view finder and monitor work well. 7. Now to the 70-200 F/2.8VR, which is not listed as a compatible lens. I saw reference in a Nikon magazine article to this lens being used with the FT-1. It seems that the VR mechanism continues to run rather than cycling on and off based on pushing the shutter release on the camera as it does on my Nikon DSLRs. So I just turn off VR with the switch on the side of the lens and all is well. Of course I must switch VR back on manually if I want it, but this is a lot better than spending over $2000 for the VRII version of the lens! Overall I could not be more pleased with an accessory for my bag as it makes my whole Nikon lens set available to the Nikon 1 system. Shooting at a 35mm equivalent of 1350mm with the 300mm F/4 and TC-17 on the FT-1 at f/6.7 means that I can do descent animal shots with the Nikon 1 system without spending $8,000 for a big heavy telephoto lens. At first I thought Nikon was nuts with the tiny CX sensor, but now I see the brilliance of their design choice. I am 70 years old and to get the kind of telephoto performance in this lightweight package opens up a whole new genre for me as I just could not lug around the heavy lenses and DSLRs in the field. Buy it, you'll love it.....

Great Mount. Look No Further
I tried a cheaper version of this but the auto focus did not function which was no fun. I spent a little more to get this one and have no regrets! Not only do all the electronic work with the attached lens but they work quickly. I use it on a Nikon One and it allows me to mount all of my older Nikon auto lens to the smaller Nikon One mount. Very pleased with the results. I would not waist my time looking to save a few bucks, just start with this one. Hefty, well built and delivers super images from my old lens. Glad I got it.

Use Nikon F lenses on Nikon 1 cameras.
I bought this so I could use my Nikon F mount lenses on a Nikon V2 and V3. Works perfectly, but I advise using only the newer lenses with electronic diaphragm (G or F type) since the Nikon 1 system works best with those lenses. I use it with the 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR and it works great. Make sure you have the latest firmware installed in the camera and adapter for it to work properly.

Stay away!
This adapter is a required component to nikon 1 system that got dated by advancing technology. I thought the small camera body ithe adapter supports would add to convenience and portability. It did not work for me. Too many priority specific parts to purchase. I bought the adapter, the lense, and the camera body only to find it to be cumbersome and unreliable to use.

GO GET THE FIRMWARE UPDATE
Bought in 2012 after being gifted the Nikon 1 V2 14.2 MP HD Digital Camera Body Only (Black) to complement my d7000 and FX/DX lenses. It performed just fine, but didn't realize it was only AF-S (autofocus static), and single point center at that. Imagine if they let you use all the AF-C (autofocus continuous)points with a super telephoto lens? Well, I recently was checking the nikon site and saw that there is an update (published 4/11/2014 version 1.20) for the firmware that takes us one step closer. AF-C is now working and quite well actually. However, this is still only SINGLE POINT AF-C. I really hope nikon gets there game together and releases a firmware to let us use the AF points that cover nearly the whole sensor. I'm sure we'd all appreciate an all point AF-S at the least. As an aside, I see this camera to be the complement to a full frame, kill autofocus/speed/reach with the 1 series, and killer depth of field/low light iso with the full frame. If you can buy only 1 camera system, you go with the DX an split the difference. Anyway.... Decent adapter for the 1 series. Besides the AF-C single point issue the only other issue is the tripod mount area. This is likely not the case when mounted on the Nikon 1 V1 10.1 MP HD Digital Camera System with 10-30mm VR 1 NIKKOR Lens (Black) or the new Nikon 1 V3 Digital Camera with 1 NIKKOR 10-30mm PD-Zoom Lens , but with the V2 anything larger than the smallest tripod mount will interfere with putting the adapter on and off as a standard manfrotto quick release is just too big and hits the grip before releasing. Lack of grips on the V1 and smaller V3 grip likely make it a non issue on those cameras, but I had to get the smallest arca-swiss plate I could find ( Peak Design MICRO Plate for Capture Camera Clip just works and I can't say enough about their system...) to have the tripod mount always on the adapter and still be able to put it on/off the camera. TL/DR. Works with AF-C single point, but COME ON NIKON, REVEAL THE FULL POWER OF THIS ADAPTER!!!! tripod plate will interfere with V2 cameras.

It works great! I bought Nikon 1 J5 with the intention to use it with my F mount lens to get the 2.7x crop factor. compared to all the 3rd party adapters, it's more expensive, but you get what you paid for because it does not lose functionalities(like auto focus) or speed on all my lenses(14-24 f2.8, 50mm f/1.8, 105mm f2.8 macro and 28-300mm so far). It's especially useful for shooting macro(105mm becomes almost 300mm) and moon(300mm becomes over 800mm). excellent investment!

If you own any Nikon FX or DX telephoto lenses for your other camera bodies, then you must have one of these adapters for your CX format Nikon J/V one or two camera. The crop-factor of 2.7 enables you to take fabulous long tele-photo shots without any loss of aperture or optical quality as one would get by using a teleconverter. I have a 70-300 f4.5/5.6 zoom which, on the V1, becomes an f5.6 810mm lens! The VR works using this adapter and so one can take 810mm shots hand-held with a lens costing just ยฃ450: try doing that on an FX body. Fantastic bit of kit. However, Nikon charge a horrendous sum (around ยฃ220) for what is nothing more than a lens mount adapter with a pass-through electrical connection for Nikons G series lenses. But it is very well made (all metal) and works beautifully. One word of warning though; if you mount a VR lens on the adapter, it's energized the whole time and not just when you press the shutter release, and so, you must remember to turn VR off at the lens if you normally shoot with the camera switched on all the time, otherwise you'll have flat battery in no time.

Worth the price. The only limitation is that you get center point focus only .But then i could use all the existing Nikon glasses on my V2
