Product Description Kamigami are the build-it-yourself robots that move like real animals! Designed by Berkeley engineers after nature's fastest critters, they magically fold up from a flat sheet & zoom over any terrain. Use the free companion app to drive your Kamigami, play interactive games, or, best of all, design and program your own! The patent-pending, drag-and-drop programming interface make them the perfect entry level STEM toy. You Get to Build a Robot! Magically transform a few flat sheets into a scurrying robot critter-- no tools required. Simple enough for an 8 year old, but complex enough for a teenager, the easy-to-use programming interface teaches coding logic and lets kids bring their game ideas into reality. The app will continually offer new updates and game suggestions, so there's no room to get bored. The Smartest Pet They'll Ever Drive Light as a feather and quick as a bug, Kamigami have a full sensor suite to talk to each other and explore their environment. Their super durable construction even holds up when skydiving (we tested it!) Build Magically Bring Your Robot to Life from a Flat Sheet-- No Tools Required! Program Design and Input Your Own Games and Behaviors! The programming function is available for devices running iOS 8 and above. Play Team Up with Other Robots for Games, Races and Endless Fun. Drive Your Imagination When you play with a Kamigami, you create the games, you control the rules, you build the interactions. With an easy entry point, but high potential for creativity, anyone can jump in and play without prior building or programming skills. Our goal is to provide a growing variety of building blocks over time, both in hardware and software, so kids (and adults!) can learn and have fun. About the Startup Describe your product in 3 words. Build, Program, Play How did you come up with the idea for this product? At the robotics lab at UC Berkeley, we were working on designing robots after real creatures. Kamigami are really unique in the way they move, and it's part of why they are so fast and dynamic; the base is actually a robotic simulation of how bugs move! We kept hearing again and again that there was a market for this, people were delighted by how they looked. But we didn't just want to make a pretty toy, we wanted to make a smart toy. We felt the design could be a cool entry point for people who are interested in robotics and hardware, and the programming interface is a great entry point into coding. We loved the idea of making robotics accessible to more people, especially kids. What makes your product special? The design and the option to program your own games. We wanted to build a toy that fostered nonlinear play. Toys should channel imagination, not replace it. There are a lot of video games and things out there that can do this, but we wanted to bring it into the real world. Kids design games in their heads all the time, this is about channeling those ideas into physical form and seeing them come to life before your eyes. Robotics is a great avenue for that. We wanted to do more than just have people sit there and drive a cool robot. This is about being engaged and interacting. What has been the best part of your startup experience? Watching what a kick people get out of this. When we see kids' faces light up because they realize they have just built a robot with their own hands, it's pretty motivating. We've also heard it's a great parent-child project, and that's great to think about as well. More than anything we've been really grateful for the support. We are so happy watching how much fun people have with these guys.

Kamigami Robots were a hit!
This was a Christmas gift for a ten year old girl and boy, along with two of its brethren lifted directly from the Dash Robotics site. After putting the link through Fakespot, there was some anxiety on my part about how well the robots would perform, but that was all put to rest once we tested the product. The kids absolutely loved their Kamigamis! I helped my daughter assemble the first one, then she put together Musubi and Inari entirely by herself. Turning on the robots and linking them to the kids' iPods was a breeze. The app that controls them is well designed and intuitive to use. It contains pre-programmed games, like freeze tag and sumo, which we had fun playing together. The included dance routines were also a big hit. The robots moved well on various surfaces and are sturdy enough that falls off tables or counter tops didn't damage them. Steering was a bit tricky, especially on slippery surfaces, but by no means did it detract from the fun of playing with the Kamigamis. Programming new routines was very easy and provides a good opportunity to think. We haven't tried to program swarm behavior, but it seems that should be a good fit for the robots. My only suggestion for improvement is to lower the price point, so that we can add more Kamigamis to our household, along with the ability to control multiples from the same app. In a nutshell, I was very impressed with how well designed this product is and thrilled to see my kids really enjoying their gift.

Good Design
Seems like fun. A bit over-priced in my opinion. I think the chip + motor is worth max around 30, and other materials in around 10-15, and say 10-15 more a decent app and design. Overall, I think, a 60-70 price point seems right. However, I am happy to pay for a good design. I certainly had fun building it with my kid. The little bit of 'origamish' work to build it was a good value by itself.I am curious to see what improvements will be added in future. I would like to see ability to program loops, and create your own functions. Also, being able to tell how long to play various sounds (use a loop if needed), would be a welcome addition. How about a game where you code up movements resembling English alphabets. And then you can have this robot write words or little sentences. That would be fun :)

Glad I got 2 robots
I bought 2 robots so they could interact with each other & I'm glad I did. They're actually pretty fun. my 6-year old loves the lazer tag, racing around the house & beating me because she's better at using the controls than I am...for now. They're pretty durable & the online instructions with the videos helped me (I did make a mistake on the first one because I didn't read the full page, but once I figured out what I missed, the fix was easy). Overall, I have no complaints & the robots are working & holding up great.

really fast and won't break under it's own power. Amazingly light weight. Works like an oversized insect.
Terrific example of "Biomimicry". Most toys aren't really as fast as they look in promotional videos. This one is faster!Amazing how light it can be. And how fast the bouncy spring like legs cause it to bound across carpet. Actually works better on carpet than slippery floors.I think this was derived from someone's Ph.D. thesis.Putting it together origami style is a real treat.Love the glowing eyes...Phone app to control thru bluetooth works very well.I can imagine in the future lots of things like this will exist and be really useful.

Happy kids - won't leave it alone.
Quote from my kid "this is the best thing ever invented."It's definitely the cutest RC toy I've ever seen. Putting it together might be hard for some kids, but they were pretty blown away when it turned on for them the first time. I was pretty proud of them. My daughter has proclaimed it a member of the family. Feels like a toy for smart kids.
