Wish I didn't have to buy it but the 2 copies they had available to rent across the entire internet were check out! The content is great and easy to follow, not something that I would need to go back to necessarily so again nothing I would purchase if I didn't have to.

Very enlightening read. The book has given me a new understanding on my previous notions of what constituted child abuse and how culture shapes not only my view, but the client outcome. I would recommend this for anyone in the social services or even teaching arenas.

Didn't love it but didn't hate it either. It is slightly older and outdated and I thought the author had a little bit of a whiny tone at times. The first few chapters were not my favorite. The book did give some insight into child abuse and alternative explanations. I liked the book because it gave some insight into specific cultural groups.

This is a very helpful review of how to incorporate cultural awareness into the process of evaluating child maltreatment. The text includes many examples and thought-provoking questions. This book was required reading for obtaining continuing education credits prior to licensure as a clinical social worker. Highly recommend.

This book really helps clarify the various possibilities when dealing with child abuse in immigrant cultures. The author sheds light on the various possibilities of why immigrant families act the way they do and provides examples of ways to work with those families in getting them away from those behaviors.

great for new social workers in the field helps to understand the cultural beliefs of the clients and helps to understand how the environment they are in effects their lives daily as well as grom generation to generation.
