Review: Very Good BD-Rs - This would probably be my 5th purchase of these Optical Quantum BD-R's. I've only purchased the 'logo top' version, as I prefer to write my own label on the disc rather that print the label. They are very good good for the money I paid, and have been very reliable....even for discs that I've burned over 2 years ago. I use Pioneer brand Blu-ray burners (BDR-209D & 212D) and have very rarely if any, gotten a bad burn or failure. For the price and quality, I'd buy them again.
Review: Good discs but don't use them for long term storage - I've used literally over 5000 of these BD-25s and BD50s for backup purposes at work. What I've learned will hopefully save someone out there a lot of headache and/or heartache over data loss. These discs, and all discs (except M-Discs), are NOT meant for long term storage. They use a partially organic dye that WILL begin to erode over time, corrupting the disc and losing all of the data stored on it. You can write the disc, place the disc in a case, put in on a bookshelf and never use it again and it will still fail eventually. Others have posted photos of what this looks like in their reviews so I'm not going to. The point to learn here is DON'T store ANYTHING that you don't want to lose on a disc (except M-Disc). These come with two different types of dye. There's one that's a blue/purple color and another that's gold in color. What you want is the gold. Those last A LOT longer than the blue/purple dye. The problem is you never know what type you're going to get. I've had the blue/purple dyed discs begin to erode in just a couple of months of no use. I have yet to have a gold dyed one fail and many are over 10 years old but I know it will still happen eventually. The BD-50s are more likely to have gold dye than the BD-25s. For what they're meant for, short term storage, they work great. Just don't use them for long term storage because you will lose everything you have saved. It's just a matter of time.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does anyone by chance know the media I.D. of these discs?**
A: vso inspector shows the media i.d. cmcmag-ba5-00 (cmc magnetics corp.) vso database shows a success rate on the discs as 94.3% from personal experience i would put it at more like 99% - - - - - hope this helps

**Q: has anyone tried to burn at a higher rate than 6X (as listed on the package)? success/failures?**
A: These discs (BD-R) can certainly burn at a faster rate than 6X, but as someone else and I have commented before, it IS NOT a really good idea to burn the Media faster than what it is rated for!!! While you can burn it faster, doing so can definitely cause burn errors and you will have bad discs, so that is up to you if you want to take that chance! Even thought I have 6X & 4X rated Media, I still burn them at their rated speed - I can burn them faster using my LG Burners, but I only end up saving 10 minutes at the most during the burn process. I back up my own Movies in case I lend them out, so that the original isn't damaged by someone's carelessness. When I back up the full space on a blank disc (23.3GB available), it takes around 15 minutes during the burn process for 6X media - sure I can save some time by using a higher speed, but I would MUCH rather have a good burn instead of taking chances when using a higher than rated speed. I personally have had some bad burns going too fast on the burn rate & I have read MANY forums where others have stated the same problems. Quit being in such a hurry and get quality burns at the rated speed, eh? You can use the FREE program Imgburn to set your burner's speed for the Media and the program will also find Firmware updates for your burner as well which is important for good quality, consistent burns.

**Q: are these available in HTL**
A: Already been answered but for those who like "trust but verify": As of May 2017, ImgBurn shows the following for these media:Recorded Mark Polarity: HTL

**Q: Are these htl or lth?**
A: From what I can tell these are HTL. Optical Quantum does make Blu-ray disks that are LTH but they have the designation on the outside box and in the model number. This item's model number: OQBDR06LT and an example LTH model number: OQBDRLTH06LT. This is where I found the information: http://www.opticalquantum.com/Default.aspx and, while the disks not marked LTH don't explicitly say HTL, I can be certain they are not LTH.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great affordable bluray media, reliable thus far!
*by W***L on June 8, 2017*

As a new owner of a Blu-ray burner to be used exclusively for archiving data, I've been looking into the best types of media. Many sources states the Verbatim disks available here are a sure bet: Verbatim BD-R 25GB 6X with Branded Surface - 25pk Spindle 97457 I purchased those first, tried them out, and I do like them. But with a recent significant price cut on the 50-pack spindle of the Optical Quantum, I had to give them a try. Sorting through the many reviews though is tricky. Here are all the facts of my setup (I think all these facts matter when you're trying to figure out if it's a hardware, media, or user error issue): My media was purchased on 5/27/17 and arrived 5/29/17. The burnable side is a grey/gold color. The media ID on these is OTCBDR-002-000. That's the same as the Plexdisc available here: PlexDisc 633-214 25 GB 6x Blu-ray White Inkjet Printable Single Layer Recordable Disc BD-R, 50-Disc Spindle though those have an InkJet printable front surface. The non-burnable surface of these is a goldish grey with a somewhat matte finish. Looking at the Blu-ray Disc Association License office website, these are made by Amethystum Storage Technology Co., Ltd. Looks like a Chinese company? The disks are HTL. My burner is a LG WH16NS40, which I purchased earlier this month. It is on the latest 1.02 firmware, as my burner is the NS50 revision (though the model # does not reflect that). My burning software is the excellent freeware program Imgburn v2.5.8.0. If you search the Myce forums for the media ID, you find some folks reporting they don't burn very well at the rated 6x. However, since receiving the Optical Quantum disks, I have burnt and verified 9 disks without issue. I intend to go back and do a random check of the data soon to ensure the burn lasts. I have used only the 6x speed, as that's what they're rated for. It takes ~16+minutes to burn 25gbs. I then use ImgBurn's verify after each burn, which takes another 14 minutes. So far, I have not had any errors. The 'verify' technique on ImgBurn compares the written data to the source data, so I do trust it. (To be completely transparent, the author of the software has stated that if it passes this verify, it means that the data matches, in that drive, and is readable, at that time--for sure, media can degrade). With Amazon's excellent return policy, I had no qualms about giving these a try, and so far I'm quite satisfied.
