Coding with Scratch - Create Awesome Platform Games

Got this for my 7YO nephew who was gotten much more into programming lately since his parents started to let him play video games for an hour a day. He had done Scratch JR and Scratch 3.0 before, but I don't think he realized the applications of programming until he started playing video games and realized that he can make his own game. So he has been SUPER into learning Scratch 3 lately. He's been doing some tutorials and videos online, but likes books more because he says he can read it at night before bed (I swear, this kid has such an old soul), so here's this book. I am a software engineer so I was able to review the book to see if he would be able to follow along with. It is colorful and the instructions are easy to read and follow before I gave it to him. His parents tell me he is able to follow along with the book by himself and doesn't really have to ask his dad for help (also a programmer). So yep, I highly recommend this for any highly motivated 7+ kid who wants to make their own video game. Also if you have a daughter, I highly recommend this book for them as well, as it is not a gendered book, as it walks through building a side scrolling game for any kid to enjoy. Give them the joy of making something!

My kids learned a little bit of scratch several months ago but when they looked at this book, they couldn't stop creating. They absolutely love how the book guides them to create different ideas and challenges them to be open to other creative ideas on their own. Love that open creative versatility.

This coding book is excellent. I thought at first it would be distracting with all the cartoon pictures etc but the author has the code in distinguishable blocks with titles so my son can mix and code from one project to the next very easily. I can hear his self talk: "if...else" I don't need that... I need an "if... then" then a "if touching" "set speed" to 7... (In the next room). He's basically and very excitedly teaching himself coding language thanks to scratch and this book. Well worth the money for this platform game book! We will do the code racing game book as well.

Several of my kids (age 7-15) used this book to learn more about coding in Scratch and create their own games. The step-by-step directions were easy to follow and it was formatted well. Would recommend!

Tutorials are fun, clear and easy to use, my kid is learning from this book quickly (they have no coding experience)

Todos los ejemplos viene explicados paso a paso, con imágenes sobre los bloques que utiliza y lo parámetros que usa en cada uno de ellos. Nosotros hicimos varios ejemplos y funcionar perfectamente. 👍 CONCLUSIÓN Un libro 📚 muy recomendable, para los niños 🧒 que quieran aprender la programación en Scratch o para los que ya saben y quieren ideas para hacer nuevos juegos. Bought for my 9 yr old, who uses scratch a lot, and was worried it would be beneath his knowledge level. However he really liked it and has learned some new code that he uses in his own games as well as the examples in the book. He was able to follow it without any help (just as well as I know nothing about scratch). He says he would recommend it, so so will I
