Will it work with the trs sony ecmcs3 clip style omnidirectional stereo microphone mic and a dell laptop?

This item did not work well and I had to return it four different kind.

I haven't been able to get this to work with my xbox1x, does the mic input have to be 4 pole as well? i have a mic>mixer>this>xbox controller.
