Portland Design Works | Taillight Rack Bracket

Works
Plastic is strong but seems like if you bent it as hard as you could it would break. So just don't do that. Works as intended so giving 5 stars.

Decent Bracket... Some shortcomings however.
I have several Ibera bike rear racks and there is no better way to attach a red light to them than a bracket. Even the matching bags don't hold any light steadily. The shortcomings on this brackets is the hardware. The picture shows that small lockwasher at the bolt. In reality the bolt goes on first (hexa shaped hole) and on the other end the the big flat washer, followed by the smaller lockwasher then the nut. For a proper fit, 2-3 threads should show above the nut. Not so in this case. The locking mechanism is to be handled delicately as the tab could break. I have tried this for about a dozen times and it's held up. Just handle carefully. I have not had a light fall off yet. The low rating is due to the description not being accurate and the hardware not being adequate. Decent light for a PDW HotZone light. Make sure you do not get a fake PDW light, even from Amazon. I got those too, and PDW verified they are fake, even @ Amazon. Hope this helps. I went ahead and replaced with 5/16 bolts a bit longer and self locking nuts.

Works.... but not optimally
This bracket did not fit my rack in the secure downward facing position... you know where the top of the light clip hangs on the stoppage point on the bracket?? In other words I can only install this bracket facing sideways because of the design on my rear rack. I don't know if anybody else is having this problem..... Anyway I've ridden maybe about 70 or 80 miles or so this way.....with only one screw holding the bracket to the rack and the light facing sideways and this thing is surprisingly secure! It hasn't fallen of my bike yet. If it does I'll update here. So.... In case this thing doesn't fit correctly on your rack apparently it will still work! I gave it four stars even if it didn't fit properly and in consideration of the fact that It has managed to hold the light securely.I'll update if my light breaks... I have a feeling It wont.Hope this helps

Will fit Topeak BeamRack WITH modifications
The media could not be loaded. Â This bracket will not fit a Topeak BeamRack w/o minor modifications, which is why I only gave it 4 stars. You need to purchase longer hex bolts w/ nuts of the same thread size as the original. If your BeamRack has a Topeak MTX DeFender attached, I recommend you remove it. The fender applies pressure to the release tab of the bracket if left in place, which may or may not cause a problem down the road. Once the bracket is attached, it appears to hold my Portland Design Works Danger Zone Tail Light very well. My video gives complete installation instructions including the bolts and nuts you need to purchase from your building supply store of choice (I got mine at Home Depot).

Keep that red light were it can be seen.
This item is an absolute necessity if you want to use a taillight in conjunction with a rear rack. Sure, you could just clip your taillight to your belt or to whatever cargo you are hauling, but with highly directional LEDs you'll want to keep your taillight consistently unobstructed and pointed outward into the retinas of approaching soccer moms, teenage texting addicts and raised-truck broheims. This bracket does just that. My taillight (PDW Red Planet) clips in and out smoothly and feels reasonably secure when locked in. It's not flimsy but it's also not the sturdiest piece of plastic I've ever encountered. When installing it on my PDW Payload Rack I over-torqued the nuts (It didn't take much), broke the bracket and had to purchase a new one. I wouldn't go so far as to say it breaks easily, but if you do something like over-torquing the nuts it will not survive. Lesson: Be gentle to your nuts.

Good quality, get this if you want to put PDW Danger Zone on rear rack
I ordered two different PDW tail lights - the Radbot 1000 and the Danger Zone, and I ordered one of these rack bracket kits as well. This mounting hardware actually comes with the Radbot 1000, but not the Danger Zone.I used the the one that came with the Radbot 1000 to attach it to my rear rack. It worked great. I used the two vertical holes, which are standard for rear reflectors. There is also the wider horizontal pair of holes to use if that fits your bicycle rack better.I'm going to keep the extra rack bracket kit I ordered as a back-up, even though the quality is good and I'll likely never need it. The Radbot 1000 is the best taillight I have seen and I love it. I'm using the Danger Zone as a clip-on second light, for more visibility. But if you choose the Danger Zone light and want to mount it to the bicycle rear rack, you will want to order one of these rack brackets, since it doesn't come with the Danger Zone.

Easily broken
I bought 2 -one for each of my commuter bikes. I mounted the first one upside down... duh, right? Anyway I snapped the thumb lever right off while trying to release the light. My bad- I may have over pressed but really it's a brittle plastic that I would expect to have more flexibility. I moved the broken bracket to the second bike to test the fit (different style rack). while tightening the bolt, CRACK- it snapped in half. I'm not super human -i didn't think it was THAT tight. My point is: it's not a terrible mount but be gentle with it. I'll take some responsibility and buy another one because I love the light.

Should have come with the light
I bought this to go with the Portland Designs Danger Zone taillight I had already purchased. It got 3 stars for not coming with the light in the first place and for not holding it completely bobble free in the second place. There is a very little bit of looseness that introduces more vibration that the lamp certainly doesn't need and always has me looking to see if my lamp is still there and still works when I get off. I believe a very small o-ring around the disconnect latch on this mount and clip tip on the lamp may cure that but haven't tried it yet. It does provide for quick and easy mount/dismount and otherwise seems robust for its purpose.

Nice and works well!
Fairly easy to mount and holds the rear light securely. Works well!
