My favorite pocket knife ever
This is the first pocket knife I ever bought!I'm 49 years old, I have had many pocket knives, and currently have a large pile of them on a shelf. Every other one I've ever had as a daily carry was from Christmas gifts or promotional schwag. I have had some very nice ones and some real crap ones and generally abuse them all. Most cant take it.I never really thought about buying one, I have a bunch after all, but one day I was cleaning my car and when vacuuming between the passenger seat and door, I found one of these. Not sure who it belonged to, I stuck it in my pocket and later examined it a little closer. This thing had had a hard life, the edge was beat to death and the pocket clip had been nearly ripped off and was badly bent out. I was bored I guess so I took it to the work bench and straightened the clip, which surprised me that the metal temper was such that it returned to its proper functional state after all the working required. I took it to a 1000 grit wet stone and brought back the edge easily, and It went back in my pocket until I could find its owner.Of course with it being in my pocket, I used it for my everyday needs, and was quite impressed with how well it held its sharp edge, and how well it fit my hand, and what a slim unobtrusive profile it has when clipped into my pocket, while I asked everyone I could think of who had rode in my car if they were missing it.This went on for a few weeks, maybe a month or two, until I was visiting my brother and remembered a road trip we had taken together in that car, and asked him about the knife. His face lit up when I pulled it out of my pocket, it had been his favorite just as it had become mine. In fact he liked it so much that when he lost it he had bought two more just like it! I returned it to him, of course, but I admit I was a little sad to not have it.I guess I had assumed that it was an expensive knife, but when I got home I searched for it on amazon and happily couldn't believe how low priced it was! I immediately hit the buy now and it has been with me (literally) every day since it arrived. This is truly a perfect pocket knife, not too small, not too big, holds its edge well (until you abuse it), takes abuse, then sharpens back easily.Actually, I think I'm going to buy another right now, just incase they ever stop making this model and something happens to mine.

Very High Quality Build, Sturdy, sharp blade, Satisfying "action", & and Downright pretty !
Just received recently, haven't used much, but initial impression leaves me overwhelmingly happy with this selection. Very substantial blade, sharp, sleek beautiful finish, very satisfying and solid click into position upon opening, very sturdy lockback stability. I selected this for Buck reputation, USA origin, and traditional design, ie, thumbhole open and sturdy lockback structure. I have a few orthopedic issues at 72 and I don't open 100 cartons a day or plan on being in a knife fight, so I don't care about one handed flipper or switch blade action. This is not ultra light weight but it is plenty light for its size and high build quality. Definitely would not give up the lockback structure and mechanism to save a little weight. People with normal dexterity will be able to use the thumbhole one handed. Don't see how one could find better quality and looks for $50.

Needs a little TLC (light oil) from the Factory
I purchased the Buck Spitfire 722 knife with the orange aluminum handle (due to increasing age and poorer eye sight) serrated blade as a back up to a Buck Vantage 845 knife purchased in 2015. I received the Spitfire the other day and immediately noticed as other reviewers have mentioned the single hand opening is difficult in operation and I also noticed it requires two hands to unlock the blade for closing, unlike my Buck Vantage 845 knife which has a different unlocking blade mechanism. However, after spraying the Spitfire knife down with Remington gun oil and letting it sit for at least a few minutes and using compressed air to get the oils into the crevices then working the oils into the knife joints and thoroughly wiping the knife down the single hand opening is much smoother and do-able, unfortunately the unlocking for closing still requires two hands but also much smoother after the oil treatment (you could take it apart using small star type tools to unscrew or adjust the fastening points). As for the quality, fit and finish I have no issues. The blade is sharp, tight, and well aligned in its case handle and with the oil treatment operates much easier and smoother one or two handed. I still prefer my Buck Vantage knife but after a few more oil treatments and usage I believe the Spitfire will be a long lasting alternative!

Buck yeah
The media could not be loaded. My 3rd spitfire, thin profile easy on the pocket, solid lock up but does need fine tuning to get the perfect balance of detent and easy opening. Inside edge of scales are a little sharp but easily smoothed out .bucks steel is awesome, i can tell very little difference between my spyderco s30v and bucks 420hc on edge retention , granted i haven't done a side by side comparison but for my use 420hc is plenty able to handle my needs .Great knife , just wish g10 was an option other than getting a custom from bucks knife shop. I do not like the red back spacer so i swapped it with one i sanded , much better looking. 2nd best Buck knife I own , Buck 110 trx is my top favorite but the 722 is a very close second. Update 2025 : bought a 722 custom in s35vn, o.d. scales and backspacer off bucks custom knife shop , and purchased another one in 420hc , these are sweet knives , the action had to be adjusted on each one but its simple and produces rock solid lock up . The cerakote feels warmer than the anodized aluminum , all finishes hold up great , the 722 has over taken my trx bucks as my favorite, definitely recommend them.
