I have become more interested in Rembrandt's paintings since reading Henri Nouwen's books. Am reading through the book and studying the pictures for his message(s)

John Durham does an outstanding job of portraying Rembrandt's art as it relates to his faith. He makes a compelling case that Rembandt read his Bible so confessionally that he literally painted himself into many of the biblical scenes. As Durham expresses it, Rembrandt's "works on biblical themes present a Bible he experienced, a Bible that was real to him because he read it as a book about himself." I recommend this book both for those who are interested in Rembrandt and for those who want an example of a man who gave testimony to his faith in his life's work.
