This knife has quickly become my favorite chef's knife. I’m absolutely obsessed with it! It’s made me excited to be in the kitchen again. The knife came razor sharp right out of the box, and with its VG-MAX steel, I expect it to stay that way for quite some time. I’m also looking forward to eventually putting one of my mirror edges on it. Highly recommended for anyone serious about their kitchen tools!

Awesome knife - only downside was that the handle seemed so underwhelming for such an amazing knife. I retuned and bought the brown handle which is gorgeous - knife is awesome - much sharper than the similar miyabi’s i tried. The shun classic 6” chef is a little less wide and a hair sharper (I bought them to decide brown but both are so good I kept both)

Hi All,This is a beautiful knife, don't get me wrong. Well made, balanced, and super sharp. For a kitchen hobbyist: five stars, easy.However, after about a year of real kitchen abuse (but nothing sinister), the recipe for shun's VG-MAX steel did not hold up for me: I have more-than-significant blade pitting across most of the cutting surface. It gets handwashed and dried every time, but still it looks as though the steel itself is just not holding up. The pitting is even across the entire surface, so I've ruled out misuse (ie: cutting rocks, cables, and bones) over a specific area.At this price point, I'm disappointed.Kinda bummed. :-(
