Honesty Is The Best Policy
How exciting it is to learn to read, to put those words you see on the page and come out of your mouth. Your world is about to open.My granddaughter is 5, so she does not read yet. However, we loved this book. This story is meant for children who love rich characters with a message. Penny the mouse was out walking her babydoll Rose in her carriage. Mom said she could go as far as Mrs. Goodwin's house. Penny got to Mrs. Goodwin's house, and on the lawn she saw this beautiful blue thing. She went closer, and she discovered it was a marble. The most beautiful blue marble she had ever seen. Penny looked up and around, and she quickly put the marble in her pocket. She wheeled Rose home very quickly. Inside the house, Penny was not feeling good. She took this marble and it belonged to Mrs. Goodwin. Penny did not eat much dinner, and she went to bed early. Penny did not sleep well, at all, she tossed and turned. When you read this book, you will find out exactly how Penny tried to resolve her situation. The author, Kevin Henkes, has written many wonderful books, and he has won awards for his children's books. He is also an illustrator, and the illustrations for this book are beautiful. Soft colors, and exquisite drawings that depict the adventures of Penny. Parents/ teachers will enjoy reading this book. The children will have questions and discussions about honesty and guilty feelings. For a first time reader or for any child who has been read to, this is a wonderful book to help express their feelings. Penny is such a nice little mouse, and she wants to do the right thing.Recommended. prisrob 11-23-14

Above & beyond service
My state side grand daughter has this book, Penny and Her Marble, and loves to have me read it to her. We also enjoy other Kevin Henkes books. I ordered this same book for my 4 year old grand daughter in France. I was surprised and pleased that Margie not only sent me the book but also included a hand written note of explanation and a marble! My family in France will love receiving both the book and the marble and hearing of Margie's kind gesture. I definitely would like to order from Margie in the future.

Wonderful book for all ages!
I bought this book thinking that my 6 year old grandson could start reading it to his 20 month old sister (at some point.) So I gathered both of them on the couch and read the book to them; the minute we hit the last page I heard "Again G-ma" from both of them! And I must tell you we read this book about 5 times that day, with both of them just as involved as the first time I read it.This is an amazing book, it has a wonderful story, a moral dilemma that a child needs to learn (and adults too.) It allows a child to use their imagination and the prose is so well written it was a pleasure to read. The illustrations in this book are priceless. As you can tell I really think this book is amazing. I have ordered two more of the Penny books from Mr. Henkes. I know my grandchildren are going to love them (and so will I.)

Best Children's Book Writer...
We loves Kevin Henkes and have enjoyed all of his books from the time my daughter was a young baby. This book is no exception. My daughter is now 6 and has us read this to her daily -- she is starting to be able to read it herself. A beautiful story kid's can relate to, and learn from... This writer is truly awesome -- our favorite -- and I recommend anything and everything by him.

Penny!
My son and I absolutely LOVE Penny! I grew up on Kevin Henkes books like Chrysanthemum and Julius the Baby of the World and now my three children (two daughters and one son) love them all too. My son is 4 1/2 and is doing very well reading simple books like Penny. This is great to read together with a beginning reader. The story lines in the penny books are not as interesting or clever as most other Kevin Henkes books because there is less character development and they're all very short. That said, they serve their purpose in a wonderful way by getting early readers interested and the chapter book format helps them feel very grown-up and accomplished. I would highly recommend every Kevin Henkes book to every parent of young children.

Book with a good lesson
Good lesson about finding & keeping something that is not yours. Author captures childhood really well and this story reminds me of being a kid and being in a situation just like this. Itโs a little longer than some of the other Penny stories. There are 4 chapters, so good for a reader with a little bit longer attention span.

Cute reader
I think this is my favorite Penny story, very cute, shows a little about guilt and conscience. These little readers are great for my kids.
