How would this work for a 55 gallon tank

Absolutely not. I bought this filter for a small temporary tank with only 4 inches of water in it for my hatchling. I don’t know your set up, but turtles are messy and require 2-3 times the filtration power of fish. I went to a 30 gallon high tank, filled it 90% and ordered an aquaclear 70 filter; they’re among the very best.
