A History of Photography in 50 Cameras

This wonderful book is an ode to cameras and the photographers who use them.It is for people who think cameras are marvelous machines. Who can appreciate that they are made to capture memories as moments in time and put them on paper.The author has certainly done his research on the history of cameras and photography.He brings the instruments to life by giving their background and by focusing on the photographers who used them and the photographs that man and machine made.The cameras are beautiful examples, well photographed with an interesting historical context.The book itself is very well written and carefully produced.I saw it in the library one day and took it out and liked it so much I bought it later on.It can be read in sequence or just browsed. Either way it is enjoyable and satisfying.

My husband loves photography and asked for this for his birthday. He has read it cover to cover and still refers to it.

Whilst this book has been out for a while I only recently came across it.It’s a great book, especially for me as a camera collector. 50 images and background stories of the cameras and their use from the first hand made cameras to the mass produced. It highlights the technical changes and has some brilliant images throughout.A book to delve into as and when or read from start to finish, as I did,
