It clips onto the harness but where does the metal part go to ensure safety?** A: The seat belt is a permanent part of the leash. It doesn't interfere in any way. You clip that portion until your seat belt receiver and off you go. It secures the dog so they can't move far in the seat and they don't become a projectile in the event of a car accident. This all came to me for less than half the cost of a no escape vest I bought recently which might new puppy escaped from. The quality of the materials is superior and I couldn't believe they took the time to create pockets for all the dangling ends of the straps which my dog chewed off and was one of the reasons he escaped a different no escape harness. It's well constructed and I can't believe I got a dog seat belt with it. I can't drive but I still think it's amazing for the price I paid that I got everything I got as such a high standard of workmanship and the fit for my dog was remarkable! It's extremely adjustable for size.
