24 Grayscale Designs based on Cinderella plus bonus pages – printed one side of the page
The media could not be loaded. This is a really elegant set of grayscale designs. The designs are based on the illustrations in Ruth Sanderson's storybook version of “Cinderella”. As this is the second grayscale coloring book based on one of Ms. Sanderson's illustrated storybooks, I am looking forward to seeing more of the tales brought to coloring books in the future. The beautiful designs are extremely detailed and have small and intricate spots to color. There are 24 designs in this book and, what is very interesting, is that there are 12 bonus pages that are duplicates of half of the original designs in the coloring book. This is fun to try different techniques or colors on (or to give away to friends if you are so inclined.)This is what I discovered while coloring in this book and testing my coloring medium on the paper:24 Grayscale designs plus 12 bonus designs based on the fairy tale Cinderella for a total of 36 coloring pagesPrinted one side of the pagePaper is typical inexpensive quality used by CreateSpace: white, thin, slightly rough and non-perforated.The designs do not extend into the binding area. The designs have a framing line at the outer edgesGlue BindingAlcohol-based markers bleed through the page quickly.Water-based markers bleed through in spots.Gel pens and India ink pens leave shadows on back of the page. India ink can bleed through if you apply heavily or multiple coats.Coloring Pencils work well with this paper. I found that I could layers the same color for deeper pigment or multiple colors and I could blend easily using a blending stick; however, some of the darker areas of the designs had a tendency to smear using this type of blender. I found that liquid forms (Gamsol or mineral spirits) did a better job. This doesn't bother me as I generally do not use a blender on grayscale designs. I tested both oil and wax based pencils. I also found that hard lead pencils (like Verithins) leave dents through the paper.I like to use a blotter when working in the book. I use a page of card stock or several sheets of heavyweight paper under my working page. It keeps seeping ink and marring dents from ruining the pages below.

Normal and Beautiful
The people look refreshingly normal, with very nice period costumes. There isn't any overdone ugly sisters, or beautiful Cinderella--they all look refreshingly normal. Drawing is very high quality, with grayscale that is not overdone. Some sketches represent low light, and are therefore darker, but others are better lit so the scale is lighter. Each book contains 24 images, but gives you two sets, in lighter and darker grayscale. The paper is Create Space paper. It will definitely take Prismacolors, or other soft wax pencils. Use the test pages in the back to test your media, and use protective pages as a matter of course.Ruth Sanderson is the artist, and has 3 books. I definitely intend to get the other 2 as well. She draws beautiful fairy tales her own way, and I very much love her style.

A challenge to work up
This is a challenge to color for my set of children's memory book set. However I am glad to have it to include it with the others.

Great Artist so so gray scale
I have really tried to like this grayscale coloring book. Ruth Sanderson is a wonderful artist but we are not all created equal. I honestly didn't want to return this book because it's just so beautiful but the fact that certain images were more of a guessing game of where to color and what to color really put me off. I couldn't see what the images were and where the distinctions lied within that certain drawing. Having looked through each of the picture multiple times I could see right off that a lot of the images could be colored by a beginner to an advanced colorist. However not all images are this way especially the background with the trees and the shrubs. I noticed that to get a good image I would have to draw in certain parts of the whole picture. There are other gray scale artists where their images are very distinctive and clear and crisp so you'll have no problem at all coloring it in. However that is not the case with Ruth Sanderson's gray scale. So unless there is a change in the future with her gray scales I will stay away for now.

I've always loved Cinderella
When I saw how beautiful other customers had colored Cinderella, I wanted to give it a try. I'm not good at Grayscale but I wanted to see how her dress would look colored blue. Well, needless to say I made a hot mess. So I purchased some Gray for beginners. I'll practice a while and hope I can finally do her dress justice and post it in blue. I am so amazed at what other customers did. If I can manage to do half as well, I'll be satisfied.

Nice book
I love this book. I have colored several things and they turned out great. A big plus is there is You Tube videos to help! Everyone that loves to color should buy this. Some could be considered beginner but there are also a lot I consider advanced. The videos are taught by an artist and you learn a lot from her.

Who Doesn't Love Cinderella
OK! First things first. I am a 60yo man, new to coloring and even newer to Grayscale coloring. But boy! Did I fall in love with this book! Just love the artist! Have all of her books now as a result of this venture! If you follow her directions, you won't be disappointed!

Toll, mal was anderes

beautiful repeats
Arrived today. beautiful pics on thick paper. can't wait to dig in to this one. Was a bit disappointed that the "bonus" pics were simply repeats of what was already there, hence the removal of one star. Not that I mind doing the same pic twice in different colors or styles but I was under the impression that this book offered more than most. And does it? I guess so. It offers two copies of the same pics.. just not how I had envisioned it, I guess. However I do like the style and the quality and would probably buy from this artist again because of that. Nice detailed pics of people, pumpkin carriages and magic that are somewhat heavily grey scaled. Can't wait to dig into this one!
