I don’t mind spending this much money for a feeder that works as well as it did when we first got it. But now we’ve had it for a month, and the treadle step has bowed down, making it hard to get the lid up high enough to feed, and I haven’t figured out why, but on rainy nights, it’s been getting stuck open. On the flip side, the rats have given up going after the food at night. The ducks still haven’t really figured out how to open it, but they’re no longer terrified when it opens, so when they step on the treadle by accident they now all swoop in to eat. (I put a brick on the treadle during the day, so they get plenty of food)

Other reviews have noted that the lid tends to not fully close after opening, and this turned out to be true. However, after adding some weight to the front lip of the feeder lid, the weight balance between the lid and the treadle was better and it closes perfectly now. This is a good value feeder if you are prepared to modify it a little to rebalance the weight. Also recommend to google for training instructions, as this feeder does not come with any, and at least my ducks were dumb enough to need a fully propped up lid at first, followed by partially open so they could see the food and get used to stepping on the treadle and not freaking out by the lid moving. They now use it just fine, and it is rodent proof, especially after adding some weight to the lid.

Good concept but start out with new chickens because mine were older and was scared of it. I put weights on the step but if it moved they would take off and only eat from the side

The feeder was relatively easy to assemble but the little wrenches they included weren't very good. I used my own tools. The reviews stated the lid would stick open but adding a little counterweight to the lid solved that and that was also true. The feeder is lightweight and easy to move around and the chickens are slowly learning to use it. The reviews also stated the machined edges were sharp and could cut. Prior to assembly I took some 80grit sandpaper and did a quick sand on the edges which solved that problem. For the money I give the feeder a thumbs up for now. I'll see now how it holds up over time.

This feeder protects chicken feed from the weather, but certainly not from squirrels!

The feeder box has a sharp edge. I need to be cautious and wear gloves when assembling the box. It works fine. The box is light, so I put a heavy rock in side to stop it moving or collapse when the food runs out.

The nuts and bolts to assemble the unit felt like they were waxed and hard to handle to assemble the unit,kept slipping out of your fingers and flying away

I thought I would have a hard time getting my chickens to sue this feeder; NOT AT ALL! Within a few moments they were very comfortable eating from the feeder. Ii am very happy with this purchase, no more worrying about rushing home to feed them or unwanted critters getting to their feed. I love this item. You can't go wrong!! Very worth the investment!!!
