Will it work with any maps app while playing iTunes or Spotify?

You can use google maps or waze along with any multimedia app. I'm not familiar with how map apps other than the two I mentioned would function.

Will this work with a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder?

All you need is a DC power socket (cigarette lighter socket), an input to your car stereo (usually a stereo mini-plug). The product comes with all you need to connect with your phone. I purchased a black usb-c to lightning cable for our iPhones because she didn't like the white one that I already had. :) There's no issues with car brand or model. If your car doesn't have the aux plug to your stereo, you can use your FM radio. That's a less desirable method but it will work, too.

If i am using the car radio- do i have to then match up the screen fm to the same station?

I haven't used this feature but yes, I think that's the idea. You set the station on the unit and tune in on your radio.

Can i add a external mic?

No, there is no mic jack. There is a hole that says "mic" but that is where the mic is located. BTW, the mic's sound quality is very bad for phone calls.
