Never knew what was in my water
I got these filters to go with the shower head. Never realized how totally nasty my water was until this filter turned a muddy red no wonder my hair color was so weird now I feel like my skin is smooth. My hair is shiny and I have one of these as an extra in my bag if I go to a motel that I can screw the head into I use it.

Depends on the showerhead?
I've got hard water in a well, so i use this. They turn orange after two showers, so they're definitely absorbing something, but if you want truly filtered water, this is just one layer. The real good ones have maybe 5 different materials layered for filtration, like charcoal? But for budget ease of mind, these are easy to install and remove every other week. Again, depending how fast they get dark. I'd show a photo but my shower head broke, second one in a row because I keep buying cheap. So if youre going this route of filtration, INVEST IN A BETTER QUALITY SHOWERHEAD.
