Battles of Medieval Britain: A Solitaire Wargame (Mike Lambo Solitaire Book Games)

Another good, fun book in this solo series
Okay let's first address the elephant in the room, this is not a book with hard core, high simulation rules, so it will be criticised by a certain type of gamer. That said what do you get for your money?Mike sets out a simple set of rules in a clear concise way that gets you playing after a quick read through. The book has 12 battles/scenarios which all basically fall into you clearing the field of your enemies.Random enemy set up and reinforcements add variety and replayability given no two games are likely to be the same, so your strategy needs tweaking as well. Unlike the other books in the series all these battles are the same level , no easy start here.Although you obviously play using the book, to plot moves- I use laminated copies- it is simple to translate this to table with miniatures and as such is a great basic war game for newbies or younger children to introduce them to the hobbyThe layout of the book reflects the progression of the graphics used and is a big step up from the first book.I was musing that this basic system is very flexible and with a little tweaking would be viable for later battles, maybe as far as the English Civil War.I recommend this book for those who want a quick diversion from the worldwith a simple but of wargaming.
