I think most people would keep an item like this in the center console or the glove box on the driver's side door. It does come with a secure mount that could be secured pretty much anywhere in your vehicle with screws or double-stick tape (not included) if you're worried about it getting tossed around in an emergency.

That orange dot is decorative. You just pull it off of base.
