I'm to radio and this is a great learning aid
I'm still learning a lot about radio and this has helped greatly. I'm picking up FM radio just fine. I'm also hearing chatter on popular HAM radio clubs in the aria. I haven't noticed any heating problems, but sometimes the USB drivers for the SDR bug out. Restarting the App fixes this issue though, so not a major problem. Once the drivers load I have no further issues with stability. I can scan the airwaves as much as I'd like.

Great SDR
Highly recommend over the cheaper and lower performing rtlsdr's on the market. I'm impressed at the accuracy and low noise floor. In the near future, I am going to use this strictly for NOAA / METEOR satellite reception.Using this on OSX, for some reason it performs poorly in GQRX (I could need to update and rebuild) but it performs great in gnu radio and cubicsdr.

This is a royal pain in the ass to install on ubuntu. They don't have their own driver so you have to go find the OSMOCOM RTL-SDR driver and install it. Then the OSMOCOM driver to list the dongle on GNU Radio fails on an NVIDIA driver error. NooElec tech support is worthless, they just push off to someone who supposedly knows what they're doing and doesn't know either. If there was a zero star I'd give it that.

A little too economical.
The antennas and cabling were a little to poorly made. Since most of these units use open source software, they don't include tyhe software, you need to find it, download it, install it and load the drivers DIY. The problem is that not all the information on the company websites is well written and clearly understandable. Ultimately, the product did not provide enoouogh functionality in my area. About all I could get on it was FM radio. and not the full bandwidth.If I was going to buy another unit -- I returned this one -- I would purchase (and recommend) one that receives Shortwave out of the box. Also, one that featured software available from the manufacturers website that was either specifically adapted/modified to work with the product.Be aware that none of the SDRs offered for less than $100 offer true native ability to recieve shortwave.My star ratings apply to my purchase only. Your mileage may vary.

Garbage software!
Biggest pos I have ever been in contact with. It was flimsy had to tighten all connections and still would not work with suggested software. I tried everything and this thing has zero value to the laymen. You get what you pay for! Im gonna send this thing back asap!
