On the fence with which smart switch brand to go with? I went with Leviton and have no regrets.
I went all-in with Leviton smart switches last year and have had no regrets, they have been flawless. I have around 20 devices installed, a mix of switches, dimmers, and outlets. I started with a couple of outlets for the holiday decorations in 2017 and just kept adding after that. The main reasons I went with Leviton smart devices and continue to stick with them:1) No hub and uses Wifi to connect2) 3-way switches and dimmers3) Automate and create schedules4) Looks and works like a regular switch5) Can buy these online and local hardware stores6) Leviton is a reputable company7) Different colors to match8) Compatible with both Android and iOS9) Compatible with both Google Home and Alexa10) Compatible with IFTTT11) Reliable!I like quick reviews but read on if you want a thorough one.1) No hub and uses Wifi to connect - Using a hub made no sense to me. I was never a fan of Z-wave, Zigbee and other less popular communication protocols. And buying a hub put more upfront costs, which in my mind, made it more of a commitment once you bought a hub - no way was I going to do that! Many of us already have wifi using tcp/ip in their homes - why reinvent the wheel? I have over a hundred wifi connections on the same network, probably around 50 smart-devices and have not had any problems. Anyone on the fence with Leviton, I suggest buying a plug-in outlet to try it out. You can then install the app for free and follow the wizard to get the outlet connected to your wifi. This will get you acquainted with the app features, including Schedules and Activites.2) 3-way switches and dimmers - My home has 3 3-way switches so whomever I went with needed to have this in their arsenal. The switch was as easy to install as the 2-way because it's the same switch. Every switch or dimmer is 3-way compatible. You just use the extra post and pick up a "remote" switch also from Leviton. I was surprised that few manufacturers at the time offered this.3) Automate and create schedules - Smart switches are all about automating and making our lives easier, maybe even saving some money. I have schedules for sunset and sunrise, a "Goodnight" activity that anyone in the house can run to turn off all the lights. I set it up to keep under-cabinet lights on - pretty slick! I can turn on all the outdoor lights with one button if I want. But I don't have to since they are automated to turn off and on at sunrise and sunset.4) Looks and works like a regular switch - To me a light switch should look like a light switch. I am not a fan of the switches on the market that need instructions to use. I need my older family to be able to come up over and be able to turn the lights on without being nervous.5) Can buy these online and local hardware stores - It was great being able to go into my local hardware store and buy these. It was even better to be able to buy online and save some money.6) Leviton is a reputable brand - I was already familiar with Leviton as I replaced many of their standard switches that I installed back in 2009 when I bought my home with these smart switches. It helped to know the wiring that was behind the wall plates but my point is this is not a company that sprouted recently with funding from over-eager investors. I am confident they understand the market and know what they are doing.7) Different colors to match - This was not a show-stopper but I had some rooms where I had black switches to match the decor. I was thrilled when I found Leviton had covers in black. They included White and Almond with some of their switches at no extra cost but I have only used white or black.8) Compatible with both Android and iOS - We use Android and iOS in our household and I wanted everyone to be able to use the apps.9) Compatible with both Google Home and Alexa - I have to admit that I am a late bloomer in this area. I like knowing it is compatible but have not used much. I do have an Andriod phone and occasionally use the voice command to turn Leviton devices on/off.10) Compatible with IFTTT - If you don't know what this is, you are not alone. Basically, this gives you more control and automation. It allows other smart-devices to turn your lights on or off based on an event.11) Reliable! - I have had no issues. Anytime I have turned on the app, I have been able to connect and turn lights off or on or run an activity. The hardware has been just as reliable.

Wifi/Internet issues
I rated it a one star because it's been extremely difficult to keep working. I have been dealing with this dimmer for over a week now, even exchanged it for a new one. The setup went as planned, worked exactly as per directions. I do electrical work so the wiring was easily understandable. But....Now, the Internet wifi portion. This is the where headache starts. It will hook up to wifi, download update from internet, then the my leviton app works the functions. The problem is, it continually drops the wifi connection and goes off line. This happens quite often during the day and night. My Internet connection is fine, checked all that already. It'll work for about an hour then drop off again. Been on the phone with Leviton throughout the day and have not had a fix for it yet, very frustrating. When it's online, it works great. I have Alexa and was able to have her control it. You must install the skill first, then it will ask to discover the switch. After that, tell her to turn the light on and off, dim etc. and it works. But when the switch drops connection, she'll say it's not online and cannot work it. The switch is only 10 feet from my modem/router and I run it on the 2.4 network. So as of yet, the problem still exists and it drops connection constantly. Hope it gets fixed, or it will be going back.June 26, 2017 EDITED REVIEW after troubleshooting with Leviton techs...Thank you for the reply about the IP addresses. Seems as though it was an issue with the Technicolor cable modem/wifi router combo. After working with Scott at Leviton, I believe the issue was the modem. I changed to an Arris cable modem and Google Onhub wifi system, and no issues to this day. Scott was extremely helpful and never gave up, even sending me another unit with programming to help them trouble- shoot it. Props to Leviton tech for helping me. It's working through Alexa via wifi, no control issues, no dropping network. Thank you, great work!
