Pretty good addition to the series :)
3.5-4 starsThis was a pretty good story. I liked Amun and Haidee and their story was enjoyable but I had a bit of trouble getting into it as much as the previous books.Haidee is a demon assassin. She was among some of the early victims of the demon infested immortals and ended up unknowingly drafted into the war against them. Haidee found that every time she died, she woke again a few days later with only her bad memories of her past lives and never good ones. Haidee hated the demons because of how her life was ruined and joined the hunters through the years to help fight against the demons.Amun is one of the immortal warriors that was responsible for opening Pandora's box and unleashing the demons onto the Earth. As a way to imprison the demons and punish the warriors responsible, the Greek gods decided that the warriors would be made hosts to the demons. Amun became the host to the demon of secrets. He hears everyone's dirty little secrets and is mostly silent in order to keep all those secrets inside. In the previous book, Amun agree to help another LotU with a task in Hell. When they were down there, Amun became infested by many lower level demons that infused him with an evil aura so bad that anyone near him is driven to do evil things. They were rescued by angels but because Amun is dangerous, the angels stuck around the fortress of the LotU to guard Amun and kill him if necessary. While all this was going on, Strider captured Haidee who he thought was just another hunter (although he soon realized she was more than a regular human). Strider managed to get her back to the LotU fortress and she ends up locked in a room next to Amun's.There's a link between Amun and Haidee (explained later in the story) that enables her to hear him calling for her help and propagates the attraction/connection between them once she manages to make it to his room. Haidee finds that Amun's infestation seems to recede when she's near and his mind clears and he's able to function again. They find that there's a chance that Haidee can help Amun get rid of his infestation completely but to do so, they have to make a perilous journey. While on this journey, Haidee and Amun get to know each other and realize that they both have some responsibility for their past issues and that they can't deny the need to be together in the future. There are some major issues to get through but they do end the story with a HEA together. This was an enjoyable story. I liked both Haidee and Amun. I'm not sure why I didn't get into this story as much as previous ones (I almost rated it 3 stars) but there were some external distractions that might have been affecting me. It also might be partially because I didn't like Strider's interest in Haidee...she's Amun's and Strider (who hasn't exactly endeared himself to me) is supposed to be falling for his woman in the next book so no way was I liking that! There were a few points that I wasn't thrilled with but regardless of that, the story was pretty good and I liked the characters so I'd still recommend this story and series. :)* note - I listened to the audio version of this and the narrator did a very good job.

Now this is the Lords I love
Amun and Haidee's book was more like the original books in the series in that if focused on their story and not the story of 5 other people and situations. I was riveted and read it faster than I have read a book in quite some time. I LOVED IT!Although (spoiler alert!) I'm kind of disappointed in some of the guys inability to forgive Haidee for her killing Baden...I mean I understand they loved him but for all of the death they have dealt and revenge they have reaped on the hunters...I would think they'd understand her need for vengence. But I am so excited the series moved away from several different storylines and really told the story of Amun and Haidee...it was romance at it's finest with just the right amount of danger and suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat...who's next? Oh yeah Strider...and Kaia? haha Him I'm most angry with right now...he didn't want Haidee but didn't want her with Amun...what kind of crap is that...but it seems he came around in the end and hopefully once he finds his one true love he'll understand and accept better. Then after Strider is Paris (singsong voice) I've been waiting for his story since book 3 I think...I'm sure it's just because I'm a hopeless romantic and seeing Paris so unhappy for the last 3 or 4 books has broken my heart but I can't wait.

The Lords - One addiction I would never get rid of
As always, another Lords hit. Gena Showalter knows how to make me fall in love with each and every one of her characters, of her immortal warriors. She knows how to captivate me, ensnare me and keep my attention until the last word on the last page.Re-reading her books never gets old. It's as good as it was the first time.In this one, the quiet Amun falls for - who seems to be - their enemy. Haidee was captured by Strider in the previous book. She's the Bait the Hunters had used in Ancient Greece to kill their friend and fellow Lord, Baden. Of course, as is Gena Showalter's style, things aren't what they seem, there's always more to it, just scratch the surface and voila, things are revealed! And, as always, we get tidbits about the others - William, Strider & Kaia - and of course that you just want to dive into the next story to read all about them!I loved how both characters grew to love one another, they had a connection they weren't aware of and, in Haidee's case, 'dream guy' gets a whole new meaning, quite literal, in fact. There was an oh-no moment toward the end, but it was solved because love prevails and nothing is impossible. Not when you have Angels on your side. Which brings me to Zacharel and his story, Wicked Nights, the first book of the spin-off series, entitled Angels of the Dark. Read it!Read these books, as well. You won't be sorry. 4 1/2 - 5 stars for my babies. I shall never tire of them and I am not ashamed to admit I am addicted to them.

Good, but not great...
This is Amun’s story, who, when we last met, was overcome with demons and secrets after having travelled into hell. He meets Haidee (the Hunter/bait who was responsible for the death of one of his friends) and everything simply escalates from there...I enjoyed this story and the character arcs. Haidee’s development was intriguing and a stroke of genius - the appearance of the angels just another upside! Unfortunately, I didn’t like Amun! While I can appreciate the novel and love the relationships within it, the main male character bores me. In fact, at certain points, he irritated me to the point where I had to stop reading - this book took ages to read. Days instead of hours!

Fantastic
The 7th instalment of this amazing series and it doesn't fail to impress! The hero of this novel is Amun, keeper of Secrets. For millennia he has lived with the secrets of others, every dark thought they hide, every evil impulse they mask, his demon finds them all and Amun must live with the burden. The emotional stress he endures carrying this heavy burden causes him to distance himself from others, remaining mute so as to save his friends from the knowledge he carries. The female protagonist of this story is Haidee, a Hunter and enemy to the Lords. For years she has battled them, even killing one of Amun's best friends, Baden because of her hate and ignorance. As seen in the last book she has been captured by Strider to be brought back to the fortress for information, but she would rather die than help the lords. It's not like she hasn't died before. Weakened by the drugs Strider has kept her on she tried to escape which is when she finds Amun. After his recent trip to hell, Amun has returned changed. Able to absorb the secrets of others, he has absorbed minor demons bringing them to the surface with him. Now he is plagued by their evil; fighting a losing battle to keep them contained within his body lest they descend on the world and spread their evil. His friends have tried everything and now a contingent of angels waits in the hallway, prepared to dispatch of the threat he poses if they cannot save him. Losing hope they are shocked when it proves that their enemy may hold the key to his salvation. This book was fantastic and a definite must read. Amun made a great hero, sweet and deadly. Always the silent presence throughout the series it is easy to overlook him. Not anymore! Finally the most mysterious Lord has been given a voice, in a way. Haidee as a character was harder to warm to, originally depicted as an independent female she seems to lose part of herself as she becomes more involved with Amun. However towards the end she becomes more of a likeable character, not as great as some of the female leads but still a good character.Although mostly Amun and Haidee's story there are characters dedicated to Strider and his attempt to find peace with his demon, William and his growing attraction to Gilly and even a small note to Paris and Sienna. Instead of making the book more complicated it adds to the depth and lives of the characters, allowing their personas to play a part in the story and the reader to learn more about them.

Brilliant but not her best.
The 7th in the LOTU series and another fabulous read. This story focuses on Amun, keeper of Secrets, who after a trip to hell to save Legion, is now in a pretty grim situation. The silent warrior has absorbed several minor demons and they are proceeding to drive him mad. So much so that a contingent of angels stands guard over him in case he must be killed. The unlikely female of this story is Haidee (formerly Hadiee), the Bait responsible for Baden's (Distrust) death. She is brought to the Lords by Stryder as a prisoner, only alive because he is too attracted to her to kill her despite knowing what she did.The two captives form an alliance to save Amun and fall for each other while journeying through hell. This was a really interesting story. I really love Amun and have wanted to know his story for ages. His character was brilliant and the flashes to his past were fascinating. The other Lords pop in and out to provide various amusing moments. Stryder and William texting was hilarious and the next book (Stryder and Kaia) looks to be brilliant if this book is anything to go by. The story was enjoyable though not as fast paced as normal; I took much longer to read this book than I normally do.My only criticism would be Haidee. I just didn't get her at all. She went from tough assassin to simpering moron after meeting Amun which was pathetic to read to be honest. Her morals were rather odd at times and I just didn't really take to her but learning about her past and what she really is, was very good. And despite my earlier praise of Amun the one thing that bugged me about him was that he was very quick to move his loyalties from his friends to Haidee. I understand that he saw a very different side to her than the others did but still.Overall a really good read, not my favourite in the series so far but still very enjoyable. I must also agree with other reviewers - with this series reading in order is a must. I have read these books from the very beginning and from the year or so from the last one to reading this one, i took a while to remember what was going on myself so i think that for someone just starting this is not the place to do it; the books have so many plot lines building up in each one.

A book i was glad to finish
As a big fan of 'The Black Dagger'series by JR Ward i wanted another series of books that would give me the same thrills, excitment, tension, and deep tantalising storylines. When i found the 'Lords of the Underworld books i thought i'd found somthing to keep me entertained while waiting for the next 'Black Dagger'book.I must say up until this book i enjoyed the story of Pandoras box opened by these handsome guys and the hunt for the missing artifacts while each Lord found the 'love of his life'.Amuns' story was boring,if it hadn't been for Striders(set up for his own book)storyline which was funny and entertaining i would have failed to finish it.Usually when i get to the last page i am sorry to see the book end and eagerly await the next but i couldn't have cared less.Half of the book took place in the bedroom where all that happened was Amun reading Haidees'mind and her answering him, nothing much else. The second half took place in Hell and i thought we might get some action at last, might see some of the other Lords but unless i fell asleep and missed it most of the action was between Amun and Haidee and there wasn't alot of that either. The best bits involved Strider and William and the only reason i'll carry on buying these books are for the rest of the Lords stories. There was hardly mention of Pandoras box or the artifacts and infact most of the other Lords were out of the picture totally.Usually whoevers' story we read we get action involving the hunters,Gods and the Lords.I think we got a preview of a new character in Zacharel a warrior angel which i think will make entertaining reading. As a stand alone book i wouldn't have had a clue who the Lords of the Underworld were.

Not a fan of Haidee.
I am a fan of the Lords of the Underworld series in general but I wasn't particularly excited about Amun's story. I find his character a bit dull (even if his ability is among one of the most interesting) and I just couldn't warm to Haidee. Generally in the LOTU books, when characters we've met before are mentioned, it makes me smile, as it's nice to hear more about them after their own story arc has ended. I doubt I'll feel this way about Haidee, however... I'll probably just roll my eyes and skim past any passages where she's mentioned. The setting of the story isn't particularly pleasant either. Finally, the resolution wasn't convincing, though it makes more sense now that I've read the first instalment of Gena's 'Angels of the Dark' series.
