KASturbo Bonnet Lock for Focus MK2, Bonnet Release Lock Latch Repair Kit with 2 Keys 2004-2012 1343577

Got this item after my bonnet catch failed to open no matter what jiggling of the key I did. I followed a YouTube video and it took about 25 minutes to replace the old lock, with the most difficult step being prising out a cross shaped bit of plastic (the culprit) from the latch. It’s fiddly no doubt, but not particularly complicated to install. Item works perfectly and will store spare key in glove box. Given the item has the same bit of plastic that was originally causing the problem, it probably won’t last forever, but hopefully outlives the car. In any case I could replace it another 10 times before spending the same as getting a mechanic to do it.

I looked at a couple of YouTube videos before I started and then found the fitting process to be very straightforward. The only tools that I needed were a 10mm spanner and a cross head screwdriver and it took me less than 15 minutes to complete. There are half a dozen or so plastic trim fitting screws that need to be removed to allow access ( I did not need to completely remove the front grill) and you may need a few spares in case any get broken during removal ! For the price paid I am very impressed with this replacement item.

The old bonnet catch on our old 2005 Focus was starting to fail. After taking it out I could see that the barrel had seized and the whole mechanism was just twisting in the mounting. Fortunately I managed to get bonnet open - having had this problem the last few times of opening I daren't risk shutting the bonnet again and ordered this part. For once in car maintenance life, this was a quick job. On replacement you realise how easy it should be to open the bonnet! Well worth changing if you are starting to find it difficult to open your lid - do it before it fails altogether.

OK this is quite simple to fit took me the best part of 10 mins. Just a case of removing the lock mechanism by unbolting the 2 screws, disconnect the wire from the mechanism then slip everything into place. There are some good vids on YouTube for guidance. Dont know how long it will last but seems sturdy enough. Just a tip spray some grease on the mechanism just so the moving parts are nice and lubricated.

Fits perfect on my focus 2010 1.6 tdci would recommend to anyone and it looks exactly same as ford fitted and not the cheap plastic oneUpdate April 2022 the lock broke just after a month so wouldn’t recommend to anyone.
