This is the best
I have several fat tire electric bikes that just don’t work being transported by the frame. I researched these for literally years before buying one but now that I have one, I absolutely love it. It is so easy to get the bikes on and off and no problems with the fat tire electric bikes. You can lower it to make it easier to access my liftgate but with the addon and a couple heavy electric bikes, it is way too heavy to do that. You can lock them if you wont but I only do that if I need to stop somewhere and the bikes are on there. The mechanism for attaching to your hitch is awesome. Super simple attachment and locking as well.

Save your money- Garbage
The Thule X2 rack is great, but the add on is garbage. The add on does not line up with the existing rack and even after watching multiple install videos I could not get the handle to engage the internal locking mechanism. Thule dropped the ball on this item. I am 100% positive the install was correct, but the add on simply doesn’t work. The rack itself is a great product, but if you need to haul 4 bikes look elsewhere, the add on is total crap.

Solid, easy to put together
Not sure why all the 1 stars say poorly designed and difficult to assemble. Start to finish I dont think it took my son and I even 15 minutes to assemble. Everything lined up perfectly and had 0 problems. Very solid.

Thule is Awesome
The Thule T2 Pro XT was great, but the add-on makes it even better. Make no mistake, the assembled 4-bike carrier is a beast! It is heavy and probably will require some sort of dolly for most people - but it is easy to load, can be lowered to access the back door of our SUV, and it is stiff and uber stable! I wish Thule offered a lock cylinder trade in to allow common keying of the two add-on locks with the base unit - but otherwise, it is perfect.

Excellent product with a slight tolerance issue with the bolt holes.
First and foremost, make sure to use WD40 or some kind of lubricant before trying to connect the add-on, it will make your life a lot easier making the pieces mate. Add-on sits flushed when fully inserted, however the bolt holes will not be aligned. It needs to come back out about half cm for the bolts to line up (this is where you will thank yourself for the WD40). This creates a little gap (see pics). You could make the holes bigger like some other reviews but it doesn't impact functionality so I'm ok with it. The thing is heavy, but that's expected for the price and knowing that it's sturdy and secure. Not quick swappable between a 2 or 4 bike config as there's 4 bolts and the release lever (which is another 3 bolts). I like it a lot. Already been using the 2 bike and just got the add-on. I knew going in about the weight but I wanted something that will protect my family's bikes when we move around.

WARNING: only for making PERMANENT 4 bike rack!! Can't switch back form 4 to 2!!
This is either from poor quality control or poor engineering. My add-on had two spot welded wedges on the male part of the sleeve fitting the add-on to the main carrier. The powder coating even covered these. This made the fit so tight, the female part had to scrape off parts of these welds for the racks to fit together. The add-on had to be very forcefully put into the main rack such that its removal will be nearly impossible. If the rack needs these wedges to stay together, this is very unimaginative engineering. If the spot welds were not meant to be there, Thule needs to review their quality control. Shame on them either way.

HEAVY
So I had the T2 Pro XT, and loved it. Since my kids are mountain biking, we decided to do the add on. First, the transaction was a NIGHTMARE. I got an amazon warehouse deal, but the box arrived destroyed. Since it wasn't quite bike season, we moved the box into the garage where it sat for 2 months. When I got around to installing it, I discovered that the parts kit (bolts, etc.) was missing, as were the two rear wheel trays. Amazon said "screw you, pal, it's past the return period" so I turned to Thule, which was helpful but due to pandemic took another 2 months to get me the bolts. I still had to pay another $70+ for the absolutely necessary rear wheel trays. The good - it's sturdy and holds four bikes. The bad - it weighs a TON. We have two full-sized German SUVs (a Q7 and an X5), and the weight of this beast is insane. Hitting bumps, even knowing it's well-mounted, etc., is scary as it bounces and moves a lot. I do not recommend this for casual biking, it's too much rack. It's good for serious riders who regularly haul 4 big bikes, but it's overkill for most.

Great rack, assembly is a bit of a chore
the rack is incredible, easy to see why it's the top rated rack. FYI...many of the screw heads stripped out during assembly, I hope I don't ever have to take this apart.

Missing a bag of large screws(see attached,The accessory lacks the screws of the same part of the main part).

I was hesitant to buy the add on due to reviews. Mine came in I had no fitting issues, no wd40 to spray, no miss alignment or anything. Very easy setup, have yourself a long 4mm hed wrench for the center handle bolt. If you back tire fell off dragging your bike; make sure you installed the stoppers at each end! The rack is awesome. It’s big, it’s heavy, been using the rack for a long time. I have road, all mountain, plus bikes and fat bikes, just got the add on. For obvious reasons this is for a class 3 hitch. The add on will likely fit to your Thule rack (1 1/4 hitch) but will likely exceed tongue weight. It’s for a 2 inch/class 3 hitch/receiver. Consider; The rack roughly 52-54 ish Add on 34lbs ish Bike x4 30lbs (all mountain) 120lbs Tongue weight maybe 230 now. Edit: after extended use id caution using this, it’s so heavy I think it stresses the rack a lot. I haven’t had much issues, I’ve rebuilt the latch mech as it broke. Still an amazing add on, still recommend it. It’s very heavy and gets in the way. I’m keeping my rack as a 2 bike and using the roof rack for extra bikes now for the times I need 4
