They're standard metal hangers similar to when you pick up dry cleaning, but coated in a rubber material. They're really fabulous, actually.

How difficult is it to put a t-shirt on with that rubber coating

Not bad at all. I actually really enjoy these hangers! I primarily use them on my coat rack for heavier items (coats, hoodies, snow pants, etc), but my lighter shirts go on just as easily.

What gauge is the metal?

pretty heavy metal. Looks like they will work well for me.
