In answer to your question, yes the drawers slide in and out very easily and can be removed with no resistance!!

Q: How much weight can be placed on top of this table?

It's pretty sturdy. I can't give an exact weight amount but I'm quite sure it can hold 30 pounds maybe more.

Q: is it heavy? how difficult is assembly? i might move around within the next year so i need something that i can easily take apart and reassemble

This is light and can easily be put together and taken apart.
