Absolutely the best series of books I have ever read. You feel as though you are truly immersed in Tudor times and Shardlake is a brilliant character as is Barak his assistant. The books get better as you get through them (as does the size!) CJ Samson was an amazing author.

Great value for money, item in excellent condition exactly as described, delivered in good time.

Really great read if you like history and detectives

C J Sansom was recommended to me by old friend when discussing books we had recently read. The Shardlake series manages to transport you back over 400 years to times well chronicled in history, yet creating believable characters & situations that you feel could’ve really happened. Sansom also creates atmosphere by describing the smells, sounds, & the weather surrounding the daily lives of people living in extremes of either poverty or riches whilst dealing with the politics & events of the day. It’s as though he had a time machine to allow him to harvest all the details. My only criticisms relates to some of the modern language used by the characters yet, in fairness, Olde English would’ve been difficult to follow. References to time though, would certainly not have been talked about in minutes & seconds, as accurate time pieces were not invented until over 100 years later. Those comments aside, I thoroughly recommend these books for those interested in history & ‘what if’ scenarios. The only tragedy is that CJS is no longer with us to provide us with more historical adventures.
