A Penny saved
If you're reading this review, you probably know that the two characters represented in this set are the true heroes of the Inspector Gadget show. Which makes their inclusion in any Gadget collection essential. If you plan to keep them in their package as a display piece, disregard the remainder of this review and shell out the cash. (Sadly, this won't come cheaply. Anywhere.) If you intend on removing them from their backerboard to display or (Heaven Forbid!) let your child play with, be aware of the following-Brain- Gadgets faithfull pooch. The Brain in this set is not a posable action figure but rather a bendable dog. I've never liked bendable toys as they have a tendancy to break, leaving one useless, hanging limb. For display this isn't a major factor, but it does feel a little cheap. His sunglasses and clip on 'stach are a fun disguise, but the ear holes in his hat seem too small. I left it off his head, worried that I would peel the white paint off his ears. I would have much perfered a figure with movable arms and legs, one that could be made to stand on two paws or four as in the show. Still, he looks spot on as Brain should.Penny- Can't say anything bad about Penny herself. Looks like she just jumped right out of the TV. Doesn't do anything, but what did you expect? Kung Fu Grip? Her accesories leave a bit to be desired though. First there's the computer book. The bright yellow computer book. The decals inside the thing, while not show accurate, at least give the impression of the real thing. But from the outside it's just a bright yellow block with a thin yellow stick jutting out of it. This stick is a shoulder strap, but it slips off her arm and just looks like a bright yellow purse anyway. And did I mention it's bright yellow? She also comes with a rocket skateboard, because it was the early 90's and every pre-teen had a rocket skateboard. All in all, I got this at the best price I could find and still feel I overpaid. Not that I regret it, after all, someone has to keep my Gadgets out of trouble. Could have been better, but it's still the best plastic representation of Penny you're going to find.
