You cannot go wrong with the pigeon books. This one is hilarious! For anyone who has taken their child on a roller coaster and they have been a bit apprehensive, this is the book. It captures the essence of the experience. The pigeon makes all of these experiences a blast

My Therapy Dog "reads with children" at our local library. Mo Willems's pigeon books are great favorites and I always try to have some with me. So when I saw The Pigeon Will Ride the Roller Coaster, I ordered it for my collection. A cute book but the words don't seem suitable for early readers. "Exemplary patience", "aquiver with anticipation" are two phrases that stand out. I can read the book to them but the goal of a 'Read to a Dog' program is for the child to read to a non judgmental listener. I don't think any of our beginning readers will be able to handle these words. That said, the pictures are great, the story is fun…..just don't expect most 4-7 year olds to read it on their own.

If you are familiar with the series, this one is a great addition. My wife is a fan of the series, and my daughter loves the pidgeon books. A silly story, great to read for ages 3 and up (I like it too!) in my opinion. Deals with the possible emotions of trying something new (and possibly scary) in a fun and humourous way.

As usual, the expressions on the pigeon's face grab the attention of little children. They feel what the pigeon feels. Total silence as the book is read to them. Total happiness for the reader when she hears "read it again!" Wonderful book!
