Review: I laughed, cried, raged - **Review below is for the entire Driven Trilogy. It appears in its entirety at Krista's Dust Jacket. ** Over the course of 7 days, I read the entire Driven trilogy, one book right after the other. I hadn't intended to do that. I had had Driven on my TBR for months. But, when Crashed came out to much hype and praise on many blogs I follow, I decided it was time to take the plunge. I read Driven and just couldn't stop there. This trilogy tells the epic story of Colton and Rylee. Colton is a playboy hotshot race car driver with a guarded and secret past. Rylee is a sheltered woman who, after a tragedy, remakes herself and resolves to surround herself with her work. But, her work doesn't keep her warm at night and Colton knows that. Rylee challenges him in more ways that one. He wants to break her down, but at the same time, she ends up getting under his skin like on one ever has before. But, Colton's past is a landmine of awful events that made him who he is now. His penchant for adrenaline and sex and alcohol helps dampen the memories, but the more time he spends with Rylee, the more she makes him feel stuff. And feeling things is not what Colton Donovan does. As Colton navigates his new found feelings and Rylee struggles to maintain her sense of self while falling more and more in love with him, they find new ways of living their lives to the fullest. This was such an amazingly compelling series, there was no way I could stop with just one book. I'm so glad I decided to start reading it after all three books were already out, because I don't know if would've been able to stand the wait in between installments. K. Bromberg creates the feels like WHOA. Reading the Driven trilogy was like riding the craziest roller coaster ride. For awhile things between Colton and Rylee would be good. And when they were good, ho-lee moly, were they GOOD. Initially, Colton was overbearing and overconfident. He was determined to have Rylee, and I got the impression that it started out as a project for him. But, Rylee got to him, and I loved seeing that. Colton is a passionate man, and his chemistry and connection to Rylee was atomic. It's evident from very early on that Colton went through some seriously horrible stuff as a child. Things no child should ever have to go through. He was adopted when he was 8 by a loving family, but the damage had been done. Love, to him, was a myth. Even when he felt it with Rylee, he couldn't face it. Couldn't admit it. And, Colton wrestles with this through all three books in the series. As you can imagine, this causes a great stress on his relationship with Rylee. After several stops and starts between them, Rylee finally catches on and starts using her ability to care for broken little boys to put her man back together again. The progression of Rylee's and Colton's relationship was... infuriating. LOL. I loved these books. And then I hated them. And then I loved them again. Like I said - roller coaster. It took awhile for Rylee to catch on to what was going on with Colton. It made me nuts how her answer to the hard stuff was to leave and shut him out. I hate that. I'm a communicator by nature, and I'm always in favor of more talking, less walking. These books had all manner of drama. Colton is a race car driver, so of course, there's some problems caused because of that. Rylee's charges at her home for boys have violent pasts that come back to bite. Rylee's past and the ramifications of it, as well as Colton's past need to be dealt with too. All of that, together with the normal growing pains of falling in love, make for a very volatile, passionate relationship. The trilogy is mostly told in dual POV, although you get more of Rylee's head than Colton's. Colton is pretty alpha awesome, even when he's being an ass. Rylee has a tendency to grate on the nerves, but once she figures out how to navigate the Colton-infested waters, she's pretty amazing as well. And, after I read the last word of that absolutely INCREDIBLE epilogue, I felt a bittersweet disappointment that it was all over. The ending was great, but I knew I would miss this couple. They made me laugh, rage and cry big, fat, baby tears. Please give this series a try.
Review: Absolute PERFECTION!!!! - Natalie & Meagan's Rambling Review - Since trying to pick just ONE of us to read the ARC of Fueled would most likely have ended our friendship in a smack down of epic proportions, Natalie and I decided to write our review together. Hope you enjoy reading our crazy rambling as much as we enjoyed writing it. Meagan: I could not freakin' wait to get my hands on this book. The way things were left in Driven? My jaw was on the floor. Natalie: At the end of Driven not only was my jaw on the floor but my kindle was flying across the room AND my husband thought I was possessed by trucker from the amount of expletives coming out of my mouth. Meagan: So the beginning, beautiful. I LOVE that Fueled started off right where Driven ended. AND huge bonus, we get to see the scene from Colton's POV. Natalie: I loved the Colton POV of scenes. His inner dialogue of "the scene" in the beginning was so heartbreaking. His pain and the fear caused by his childhood were so evident. K. Bromberg did an amazing job at capturing his raw emotions. It's hard to even describe how one minute Colton can be totally alpha male full of sexy confidence and the next he is so utterly desperate and lost like a child. this combination of personality traits works so well for him and is what really draws you in. Meagan: Yes, I totally understand that. Everything that he went through before he was adopted definitely shaped him. I was so glad K. Bromberg decided to add Colton's POV to this novel. I think it added so much not only to the story's progression, but also to understanding Colton's character. Meagan: Okay, now Rylee. In the first book I was all Team Rylee. I mean I LOVED Colton but I felt so close to Rylee. In Fueled I was 110% Team Colton. Not gonna lie, there were a couple times I wanted someone to give Rylee a good round house kick to the noggin'. Natalie: Really? I am the total opposite. I loved how Rylee really found herself in Fueled. She stuck to her guns and refused to be the victim no matter how much it was tearing her up inside. She may not have had all of the facts, but come on, if you were in the same situation wouldn't you think the worst just like she did? Granted, she maybe shouldn't have taken so long to listen but the simple fact that she wasn't a whimpy push-over was very appealing to me. Meagan: I guess, but I think I was so frustrated with her because she knew what dealing with children from broken backgrounds was like. Why could she deal with them and not Colton? Plus, looking at things through his POV just made me want to scream at her, "He's trying!!" My heart just ached for Colton. Natalie: My heart ached for Colton just as much, but even though Colton was "trying" and Rylee's work experience should have given her more of an understanding, love does crazy things to you. The rational part of your brain doesn't always work correctly in such an intense situation. As much as Colton needed her, there comes a time when you just need to save yourself. Meagan: Well I guess we'll just agree to disagree *cough Team Colton* Natalie: Seriously? *raises eyebrows* I totally heard that. Meagan: Okay moving on. Haddie and Beckett. I want them to be my best friends. Natalie: I think a book about Haddie and Beckett together would be awesome. Just think of the witty one-liners and crazy ass sex those two could be having. The term "Aussie Kiss" . . . pure genius. Meagan: Yes, Haddie is great, and I have a bit of a crush on Beckett (wouldn't mind him getting his own book, hint, hint, nudge, nudge, Ms. Bromberg) Aussie Kiss was awesome. If Colton needs any help practicing his Australian, he can come find me Oh, and I loved Beckett and Colton's attempt at romance and poetry. "Roses are red. Lemons are sour.If you open your legs, I'll be there in an hour." Natalie: Yes! But Rylee didn't hold back either. Flirty and silly/seductive Rylee was great. The scene where they take the kids to the go-kart track was hilarious. I loved how she teased Colton. "Well, I seem to be running a little tight in the ass end. Nothing a quick lube job wouldn't fix," I toss over my shoulder as I walk back to my car, wishing I could see the reaction on his face. Natalie: What about your thoughts on the meaning of A.C.E.? Meagan: A.C.E.? So awesome!!! And all the times he guessed wrong? I love how he never gets it right, but he comes up with some great answers. Attractive, charming, and exquisite Always creating ecstasy Natalie: Oh how I would love Colton to be Always Creating Ecstasy with me *sigh* Meagan: Okay moving on now, we could discuss this book forever. Down and dirty time. Best sex scene? Natalie: The bathroom scene. Rylee is feeling a little overwhelmed when confronted with all of Colton's conquests. She's definitely not feeling sexy, but he forces her to look in the bathroom mirror at herself to see why he needs her. A very erotic moment if I do say so myself. "I want you to watch me while I take you, Rylee. I want you to watch each of us as we crash over the edge. I want you to see why this is enough for me. Why I choose you." Meagan: Yes, that's a great scene. But OMG, sex on "sex"?! Anyone who doesn't choose that is out of their mind! Natalie: Does your husband know about this car fetish? Meagan: Why do you think I liked it so much *wink* Natalie: Remind me to NEVER drive in your car. Meagan: All right, favorite scene besides the yummy sex ones? I have two; the birthday party and the silly Colton coming to Rylee's house. Natalie: I am in love with anything that comes out of Colton's mouth in reference to "voodoo pussy" or his feeling about women or should I say a certain women in particular. He just makes me giggle with lines like this: "F- women. Complicated. Temperamental. Necessary. F- me." Meagan: OMG, Voodoo P-!!!! Best line ever! Seriously K. Bromberg needs to patient that! Meagan: So that ending huh. W.O.W. !!!!! Natalie: Wow is an understatement. It was absolute PERFECTION! Meagan: The ending was unbelievable. I mean, I don't want to build it up too much, but it was just so great. The last four lines . . . I literally held my breath while I was reading them. Natalie: Agree. Okay so I'm looking over my highlights and I just love it all. Colton has so many great moments, funny, witty, charming and oh so sexy. He really has raced right past my other book boyfriends and taken the checkered flag. Too cheesy? Meagan: *rolls eyes* Yes, way too cheesy, but it's Colton so I'll excuse you if your brain is fried. Natalie: So, moment of truth. How many stars would you give to Fueled? Meagan: Uhg, so hard! Well, I wanted to throttle Rylee through a lot of the book. But Colton and the end blew me away. I'd say 4.5stars Natalie: I loved it all, it was a definite 5 star for me.
