In itself, no. If you placed it it would dry and fade but not grow or cover as it is processed and thus dormant. A blend of buttermilk with the moss (pretty much any moss) and spreading it out can possibly activate the spores to start growth but it would be a slow process and need perfect moss growing conditions to continue to spread!
