Great mixer for any compound.
Easy to assemble, good quality product. Heavy duty mixer and have no dout it will mix any compounds I try to mix. Made so it will be easy to clean and store in a small space. Great value for the money!! Just received so have not used it yet.

Mixing paddle works great - while it works
UPDATE: After returning the original mixer that failed so miserably I ordered another with the intent of welding all the pieces together before I even used the mixer. Unfortunately the second unit arrived with only 1 paddle! I returned it and requested a replacement (the third) unit - hopefully it would come with two paddles. The third unit arrived yesterday - it had both paddles but the setscrew for one was rolling around loose in the package and the paddle was sliding along the shaft........ Luckily I found the setscrew and expect to use it temporarily hold the paddles in place so I can weld EVERYTHING securely to the hubs and to the shaft and be done with the poor quality control problems of this unit. Overall this is very disappointing because the unit's basic design is the best of all the mixers I've seen but the quality control is so bad. If you have a use for these mixers you should probably be prepared to weld everything up before you ever use it. ORIGINAL POST: Both mixing paddles are staked to their holders, a set-screw tightens the holder to the main hexagonal shaft. Unfortunately the staking on both paddles failed during the first hour of use - resulting in a very poor mixing job until fixed. I re-staked both manually, I even doubled the number of staked on one paddle (see my photos) but one eventually failed again. My suggestion would be to add a weld between the paddle and the holder because the staking doesn't seem to be adequate. Unfortunately the welded areas will rust so that's a bit of a problem for longevity. Additionally, the bottom's setscrew stripped so I couldn't keep it on the shaft - eventually it literally fell off and was found in the bottom of the mixing can later. I could've fixed the staking issue by welding the paddle and holder together but tapping a new hole in each holder would be difficult as its a tight area to get a drill and tap into. More than likely the original tap-drill used was oversize, hence the weak thread. Hopefully the stripped thread was a one-off issue but the manufacturer might want to verify they're using the correct tap drill size. Overall I was really happy with how well the mixer worked and wasn't too upset with the weak staking because I could've corrected the issue with a couple welds but the stripped hole was not so easily fixable. I have a need for this mixer and if they could fix these issues I'd buy a new one.

Spun off shaft
I purchased this from watching a video about processing walnuts. It works great for this however it broke twice. Luckily I have a welder and “fixed” it. It’s no longer adjustable but still don’t think it should have broken that easily

Great for removing Black Walnut Hulls
Works great for removing the outside hull from black walnuts. A good drill and a container filled with water makes quick work of a messy job.

This works great for hulling black walnuts.

Junk. Bottom blade loses after first use. Top blade stayed fast. Do not recommend

Works for walnut hulling, but...
I've ordered 2 of these to process black walnut hulls. Granted the use is not for plaster as intended by the manufacturer. The first one had one of the blades loosen from the staked hub. I spot welded the blade back to the hub and did the same to the second blade. The mixer works great now for walnut hulling with a hand drill. This issue has been mentioned before in other reviews (with the same fix - spot welding). I ordered a second one as a spare and unfortunately it arrived with one blade already loose on the hub before any usage. I will be preforming the same spot welding for it soon. I'm assuming that both mixers will work perfectly after the spot welding fixes. The materials used and galvanizing seem top notch. The manufacturer should change their production method to spot weld the blades on the hubs instead of employing the simple 'staking' operation they currently use. The product will become much more durable in use afterwards.
