Excellent buy
I've tried this on two different mac computers: an emac desktop and an ibook G4, it runs perfectly on both. I see that some people are having problems, I'll see if I can help with that at the end of the review.I'm a huge x-men fan, but can't afford to buy a bunch of back-issues. The essential book collections are affordable, but they're printed in black & white. With this one disc you get almost 500 uncanny issues, including annuals, all are high-quality scan in's. The disc also has a nice little bio section, and comes with the neccessary adobe software. The one down-side is that you miss out on he tie-in issues, whick gets irritating mid-90's, but I'm not docking a star for that because what you get is well worth the price, and it's clearly stated in the description that this is strictly "uncanny".OK, for those of you having trouble getting it to run w/ a mac here's the process:load cd, click cd image on your desktop twice. You'll get a finder window w/ various files/folders, one will have install on it, this should be the adobe software, follow the installation instructions, and move your new adobe reader to applications when finished, restart your computer. Once re-started load the cd again, open adobe reader 6.0 click the folder image in the upper left-hand corner you should have a finder-type window, go to desktop, click on x-men and choose start.pdf. You should be good to go. HTH

Highly Recommended!
I just got this dvd-rom and I love it! 485 issues of the Uncanny X-men, from the very first issue in 1963, to August 2005. The comics look gorgeous and are readable in entirety, including covers, ads, fan letters, etc. The only downside is this set is strictly Uncanny X-Men, so on crossovers like X-Tinction Agenda, or X-Cutioners' Song, there are significant gaps. The packaging is also a little flimsy. Other than that, this is a fantastic product. For hardcore fans, you might want to check out Marvel's digital comics subscription, which is only a little bit more. Personally, I decided againsrt it because while the digital comics section offers all of the recent issues, the backissues are sorely lacking, and I just didn't think it was worth it. Until Marvel puts substantially more comics on the website, I'd say these sets are an excellent buy. After trying this dvd-rom out, now I want the Spider-Man one!

yes, but there's a better way...
I bought this when it did not say that the comics were in pdf. Had I known I wouldn't have bothered. Several of the other sets were in .cbr or .cbv format which is a zipped or rar archive file set up to be read by a free program called Comic Book Reader which was included with the dvd. The controls are MUCH better than Adobe Acrobat and are CUSTOMIZABLE! So you can set it up to view the way you like and it stays that way.I am waiting for them to go back to this format, as pdf's are not meant to be read easily. You can't mouse click to flip between the pages.I fail to understand why they decided to go with pdf files, since extracting the pix from a pdf is pretty easy. All they did was make it harder to view the files.BOO! As cheap as this is, hold out for a return to the easier and better format.PS: you can also unzip .cbz or .cbr files and edit the pix. I like cleaning them up and fixing coloring defects as well as rotating any pages that were printed sideways.

Disappointing Despite the Bulk of Content
This dvd is a textbook example of a great idea that fails in specific implementation. As others have mentioned, the interface is very simple and basic, and the scans are 'okay' at best. The sheer quantity of comic you get for your money makes it a worthwhile buy if you need to catch up on years of comics and aren't sure where to start, admittedly. But the biggest irritation with this dvd is, to me, the simply awful packaging. Almost like potato chips, they fool you with this great big pretty box that is mostly air on the inside. Inside you will only find a single dvd in a PAPER SLIP. That's right, they couldn't even spring for a hard plastic case. For fifty dollars! I've bought games for a fifth of the price that at least had decent cases to go with them. There's no other hard bonus material, either. No posters or manuals or anything like that. Just the dvd in a paper slip, held up by a cardboard frame so it doesn't flop around in the oversized box. This is a very useful product that fills a needed niche, but the overall presentation makes it feel like a cheap cash-scrapping endeavor rather than something the producing company took pride in creating. Everything about it screams CHEAP... except for the price! Buy it used or wait till the official price goes down, because at fifty dollars you'll be kicking yourself for purchasing this. This is a twenty dollar product at most.

An Awesome Collection
When I was a teenager, if you wanted these X-men comic books you would have had to mortgage your house--so getting them all in this one very convenient package is awesome.Every page is included--so if you want to read the letters to the editor page, or order a whole whack load of army men for just a dollar or two, you can.For the forever fan, or for those people who have just discovered the mutant team thanks to the movies, there is no better place to get caught up--Days of Future past is a storyline taken from these comic pages..You could buy the hardcover reprints, but it would be much easier to load these into your tablet and read them anywhere.
