Once book 1 really gets rolling I couldn't read anything else until I made it through book 3. Very interesting characters, plot, and world. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Worth Every Minute It Takes *by M***N on Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2017* First off, I have to admit that I made a lot of vocal complaints with this entire series as I made myself read them all. It was something I just had to make myself do, despite the times I had tried and failed in the past. Now then, with that said, I have to also admit that I am beyond glad I made myself do it and ultimately, that I let my friends's suggestions help me to decide to do it to begin with. This series as a whole is absolutely and utterly fantastic - it presents you with an entire world and a full cast of characters to love or hate, but it distinctively shows you why you should do just that each and every time. And though the politics and army talk really strained me and my attention at times, as those are not my usual type of interests when fictional, "assassin"-themed books are concerned, it again really helps build the world up around you and gives you the best feeling from all perspectives. The series as a whole is worth reading for anyone interested in fictional work and fully developed characters/plot points, and as a side note as well, the Kindle version of each book is also very well laid out and another huge plus for them. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Fans of Martin, Sanderson, and Jordan rejoice!!! *by J***L on Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2013* If you are a fan of George R. R. Martin, Brandon Sanderson, and Robert Jordan, you need to check this series out. Brent Weeks does an amazing job crafting an intricate world in a writing style that reminds me of the three authors I mentioned above.The first novel in the series really reminded me on Martin, in that this is a dark fantasy in a sense. However, there is a beautiful sense of redemption in these novels. I rarely get emotional over things, especially in movies and novels. But these series has cause me to choke up and tear up quite a few times from the amazing amount of humanity and redemption that Weeks intersperses in his characters.His magic system is as innovative as many of Sanderson's. It is clever, well thought, and has definite rules and limitations. One of my pet peeves in fantasy is a magic system that is just dues ex machina. It enables the user to have godlike powers just by wiggling their fingers. Now, I am not saying that this system is as well thought out as Mistborn, or Warbreaker, but it is a lot better than most.Robert Jordan has obviously influenced his world building. Especially in regards to a group of women mages who reminded me so, so much of the Aes Sedai from the WoT series. Even down to the giant tower they live in and the fact that they disdain male magic users and will not allow them to join the "Chantry".If you are a fan of any three of these authors, then I suggest you pick up this series.
