Will it fit square posts 1 7/8?

Hi- I apologize for the delay. These wheels probably will not work with square tube. The u-bolt is round and the pipe contacts two points on a channel. I think the pipe wheels would twist.

what is the inside measurement of the outer edge of the U groove please?

The inside width is about 1.8”. It is designed so that a piece of 1-5/8” pipe will tool at the bottom of the channel. Thanks, Marty
