Works as advertised. The control ring works. I tested canon EF 50mm f/1.8 and Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 with AE chip for EF mount with the adapter and both lens worked fine.

Can’t recommend this for R6. Cant get ring to work which hopefully an update will fix but then finally figured out it was draining the battery even when camera turned off. Deal breaker. Again hope a firmware update will make this a good alternative at half the price.

I've owned both the original Canon EF-RF adapter with control ring and now the Viltrox. My camera equipment was stolen, including the EOS R and the official Canon adapter. So I have enough good experience to compare the Canon and the Viltrox. I've taken the Viltrox on 2 photo shoots now so I feel I have good experience with it. I'm using it with my Canon EOS R5. I would've bought the Canon one (even though it's twice as expensive) but it's very difficult to find. Overall, the Viltrox is a solid product and a fantastic value. You're getting basically the same functionality as the original Canon one. However, it doesn't really compare well if you have ever use the Canon one. The Canon one fits on the camera perfectly. It attaches very smoothly and is almost dummy proof. There are no rattles between the adapter and the lens or between the adapter and the camera body. The Viltrox is a different story. I can feel the EF lens slightly move while attached to the adapter. In fact, I actually worry that constantly attaching and detaching the Viltrox will wear out the mount on my EOS R5 in a way that I never worried about with the official Canon one. The Canon control ring is extremely smooth but loud (because of the clicky sound when you rotate and hit the marks on the dial). You can pay Canon to declick the adapter. The Viltrox control ring is much quieter but the feeling is much more vague. The Canon always works under any circumstances and how it responds to your turns of the dial is predictable. The Viltrox does the job okay, but sometimes the turn doesn't register the same way. Sometimes it will turn faster digitally than the actual physical motion. Sometimes it doesn't do anything as you're turning it. For the most part, it works fine. It's just not as predictable as the Canon. The value is hard to quantify. the Viltrox is half the price of the Canon one with almost the same functionality. But you can feel the shortcuts taken to get to half the price. I'm keeping the Viltrox and will continue to use it until I can buy the official Canon one. I'll still keep the Viltrox around if I get a second body.
