Tar on book when delivered
The book itself is great. I highly recommend reading this!My book, however, came with some kind of smelly tar on it 😢 Not sure what happened. I would love to receive another copy that is clean, as I paid for a new one.

Who Knew?
I liked the author's choice of words, imagery, voice in the novel. I also like the mysterious ending.

A Quick, Eye-Opening Read
The story follows the lives of childhood friends who've lost touch, but eventually find themselves in one another's lives again as adults. Both women are light-skinned African-Americans, but one has since pursued a life "passing" as a white woman. She married a white, racist man and she lives in a society that would no longer accept her if they knew the truth.Running into her old friend makes her long for her roots. The story takes place duringthe Harlem Renaissance and it is a quick, eye-opening read. I highly recommend this novel.

great novel
I thought this book was an easy quick read and extremely interesting and entertaining. It's about these two women who are multi-racial living in America and how they deal with the society that they live in (aka "passing"). There are times were it's full of tension, ambiguity and I just love the plot. The ending was great as well. I don't want to give anything away, but if you're into a great piece of literature, I'd read this.

Eye-Opening and Excellent
I would say this is a scholarly and literary must-read. "Passing" by Nella Larsen follows the story of Irene Redfield. Experiencing the idea of white "passing" as a black woman, she sees a whole perspective on life she once did not know existed. It's very interesting to learn about black perspectives and how passing can affect a person's mental and physical health. An emotional story but very interesting to read!

Great read! Wish it was longer!
Great book! Short, bitter-sweet novel, only because of the way it ends, which I did not see coming. I want to read The Vanishing Half but someone recommended that I read this first as they both deal with the idea of “passing”. Though not the prequel to the novel mentioned, it does introduce the topic well.
