Works well and fits older Model 2012
This worked well on my older model 2012 planer. This dust hood has an extra metal track that’s not needed for the model 2012, but you do need the screws that are on that metal track. It seals up pretty well and eliminates about 90% of the dust. I used a Rockler dust fitting adapter (size “A”) to connect to my dust extractor.

Much better than nothing; Cerainly worth the money. Addendum 10/27/13
Someone said in a review I read when I was comparing planers that, this should be standard. I fully agree.Anyway, this works quite well and collects lets say...90% of the chips or so. I run mine in my garage so I always use a good shop vac with my power tools. The planer would make a BIG mess without the collector.Easy to install, my vac hose actually fits inside the port (it is a weird size) with just a little clearance. If it fit better it might (?) allow it to work better.Certainly worth the money and the two minutes to install.October 27, 2013Just for a quick test and to satisfy my curiosity, I tried to run a few pieces through without the collector. I upped my rating to a Five*. Don't not get this if you don't have an alternative system.

The Best Home-made Dust Collector Hood Adapter Yet
This product attaches very easily to the Makita 2012nb planer, but the exhaust tube is too big to fit ANY vacuum hose or ANY adapter. I visited all the DIY stores, contacted the Makita directly, contacted auto stores, and went to two plumbing stores before I finally found an item that would fit the hood exhaust tube and my 2 1/4 inch hose for my ShopSmith Dust Collector. At a plumbing supply store, I bought a 3-inch rubber/silicone sleeve (about $6.00) that came with two ratchet band clamps. I cut a section of the sleeve out until it fit perfectly around the dust collector hood tube. (Be careful about cutting out too much of the section. In my first attempt I was 1/2-inch too short and had to buy another sleeve).I previously ordered on Amazon a Woodstock W1041 3-inch to 2-1/2 inch Reducer.I placed the Woodstock reducer against the dust collector hood and then wrapped the rubber sleeve around both items and tightened them down with the two ratchet band clamps. There was a small gap in the middle, so I added a third ratchet band clamp and that took care of the gap. Now the adaption looked professional, stayed nice and snug and I was able to add or remove my vacuum hose with ease. I added a picture of the finished product. I think it looks better than the other ideas presented by other woodworkers who used tape or glue.

I have the original model 2012 and it fit perfectly I. Very happy !
So much better having most of the chips blow out the side instead of on the work piece !

Hose Connection Advise
The Makita exit port measures 75mm (3") OD. It accepts flexible 3" hose perfectly. Need to connect to 4" Hose? See attached photos for some options and part numbers. The rubber coupling shown is true 3" ID and provides a perfect slip fit between Makita port and Reducer. Why does Makita not offer a conversion kit?

It works as advertised
Product works great. As all of the other reviews mention, if you plan to hook it up to your wet/dry shop vac, you'll need to get creative. I used Sohrab's method from his review and it worked great. The part he mentioned from Home Depot is a good snug fit and seems to be the best solution out there. Make sure to check out the pictures in his review.

Easy to attach.
It really takes care of all the saw dust but trying to match its 2 3/4 inch port to my 4 inch hose took some imagination. The connection I made is not pretty but it works.
