Laboratoires Osma's alum is the world's best potassium alum for use as a post-shaving astringent or a natural deodorant, and they are entirely made by hand in Craponne, France. Laboratoires Osma's alum stones wear away evenly, without breaking down in a granular fashion, and they contain a higher percentage of weight in water than any other alum stone on the market, which makes their application both upon the face and under the arms more comfortable. This stone is approximately 230 grams of net weight and is hand-formed into a semi-spherical shape. It can be used for either post-shaving or for deodorant use; these do not come with instructions, but the use is rather straightforward, for deodorant you apply some light amount of water to the top of the cylinder and rub on the area to be protected until the water is absorbed by the salt, while for shaving you will leave your face wet after the shave and simply gently move the stone down and around the shaved area, let sit for 30 seconds or so, and splash off with some cold water. Bulk packaged and shipped. Fragile-do not drop. Handmade in France.

The BEST natural deodorant I've ever tried.
Wanting to get away from chemicals and additives in regular deodorants as well as wanting to get away from the often astronomically priced natural deodorants, I decided to give the old fashioned alum a try, after doing some research on some shaving/grooming blogs. Naturally, I was a little skeptical- after all, it seems almost too simple to work effectively, especially in such a sensitive area (so many "natural" deodorants caused a rash). After a month of using it, I'm officially a convert. It's cheaper that alternatives, gives a full day of deodorizing, doesn't leave any residue, and hasn't caused any skin irritation at all. Just wet it, make a few quick passes down your underarms, dry the alum, and you're ready to go. One caveat though: I did accidentally drop it in the bathroom sink and some small chips did break off (after all, alum is a little brittle); however, with such an ample size, a few chips are hardly noticeable. Overall, this is an affordable, lasting product from well-known brand that actually does the job.

I got this because it seemed like a good idea without much hope that it would for me. I have been using extra strength, clinical strength whatever is the most industrial I can find but hating the chemicals, the expense and the packaging. I am blown away. This actually works great.

Love Osma Alum Stone (wish it was available more often)
I bought my first Osma alum stone back in April of 2018, to try it out. I think what I have left should last another 6 months or so. It works great, stops the smell, doesn’t scratch or cut your skin like some others I’ve tried. Other family members have tried it, and liked it so much, that I’ve ordered one for each of them. The only problem with this product is the availability. Sometimes I’ve looked it up and it’s not available for a long time.

Natural deodorant that works
Started using this as deodorant a few months back and I’m so happy with it. It doesn’t prevent sweating (not an antiperspirant), but there’s no smell. It is going to last a long time too.

Excellent... however...
I am so happy I found an alum stone NOT packaged in plastic and all the other crap that society thinks we need.However... I don't think that wrapping something in bubble wrap is eco-friendly... That would be my only "complaint". I can recycle the box that this came in and I can take the bubble wrap to the post office for someone else to use, but I do genuinely wish the bubble wrap in particular could be replaced with something more eco-friendly. I know that Lush packages their products in packing peanuts made from potato starch. What an amazing alternative to conventional packing materials! The product itself is excellent so I am only deducting one star for non eco-friendly packaging. I don't like contributing extra waste so these are just my thoughts.
